Early this week I picked up paint samples for the baby's room and I think I have settled on a nice Lavender Grey color called “Lavender Sparkle”. It is very subtle... but feminine. Have I mentioned that I am beyond excited about having a girl? Next Tuesday my friend Tia is going to come over and help me paint the whole room, and the new rug should be here Friday. Then it is on to getting a dresser (I'd like to get a used one and paint it to match the room decor.) and making curtains and recovering pillows and other linens. YAY Baby Girl!
This past weekend we got a lot of house prep stuff done around the apartment. We had some really great help (Thank you Ted and Brian!) and managed to rearrange the living room and office space. I also got my painting by Max Tanner hung in my room (I LOVE it) and some pictures of Cobain up on the wall. Then we went to put the crib together and found it is missing some parts. Max should be able to jury rig it so it will work (safely) but it delays my nesting impulses. There is still a lot to do before she gets here, but I feel like we are making progress.
Yesterday we had a centering group and as well as reviewing relaxation techniques for labor, we got to see the birthing and recovery rooms at St. Luke's. The Birthing rooms are beautiful but do not have wireless access (Tho our cell phone seem to still work). I ran into one of my former teachers that I really liked in the postpartum unit so I am excited about seeing her again after the girl comes.
It is time for me to really start working on that birth plan, and while I have a pretty good idea about what I want I am still trying to be open to whatever happens (since in reality, baby is calling the shots, not me.)
Next week I have to go and see my OB doctor, since my platelets are still way to low and need to be better controlled before I give birth. One of the most risky complications of birth is maternal hemorrhage and without adequate platelets my clotting factor is impaired. This is not a real issue right now for either of us (and in some ways it is a boon, since pregnant women can be more prone to clots) we are both safe and healthy for the time being. If worst comes to worse they can supplement with a platelet transfusion and other clotting drugs (vitamin K) but that is a lot more risky than addressing it ahead of time and if we can get it under control then it is a non-issue before we even begin. The whole thing has... scared me a little bit, but I have good care, so everything will be fine.
Lastly, Saturday is our party! Max, Seamonkey and I will be surrounded by loved ones and our community and I have to say I am getting excited!
