We're back! Kirsten and Scott are back from the SCA's Pennsic War. If you've never attended, this event is best described as a medieval tent village of 12,000 people that pops up like Brigadoon for 2 weeks and then disappears again. It is kinda like a cross between a Renaissance Faire, a Highland Games, and a medieval war re-enactment, with some Burning Man, and a Scouting Jamboree thrown in for fun. Scott's annual concert went well, sales were good, weather was great and the kids were well behaved.

Scott also has a new CD available under his "Efenwealt Wystle" stage name. Songs from the Sock Drawer is a mix of medieval, renaissance, celtic, filk, SCA, and Harry Potter stuff. Now, on to the real news:

COSTUMES!
We have already started gearing up for Halloween. Costume accessories like hats, goofy glasses, and animal ears have started trickling in. If you are looking for something specific, talk to us right away. We can make or obtain just about anything you might want to complete your costume.

HEY STEAMPUNK FANS!
Kelly Farrow has been hard at work making some Victorian and retro fashions. She's also happy to take custom orders for any costuming needs you may have. We've just received a shipment of bowlers, top hats, goggles, gloves and other costume accessories.Kit Wellner's line of steampunk jewelry continues to expand. Come check it all out! Also, the steampunk day we've been talking about hosting has been postponed until January.

FIRST FRIDAY - Sep 5

HARRY POTTER RE-READERS CLUB AND WIZARDS OF THE TRIANGLE - Sep 9 and Sep 23, starting at 6:45pm
Come relive the books and movies with other adult fans. This month we're starting on Order of the Phoenix.

LIFE AFTER HARRY BOOK CLUB - Sep 16, 7-9pm
This book club is for teen & adult fans looking to share books (beyond Harry Potter) with others. This month's books are "One Good Knight" & "Fairy Godmother" by Mercedes Lackey

TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY & BLACKBEARD RETURNS - Sep 19
Yes, International Talk Like a Pirate Day comes once a year. Help us celebrate. Talk like a pirate at work, at home, in the car, at lunch. Just a little "Yarr!" or "Aye, me hearties!" will suffice. When you talk like a pirate in our store that day we'll give you 10% off your entire purchase. If you also DRESS like a pirate (even just an eyepatch) we'll give you a whopping 15% off. Chris Suttle is returning once again as the nefarious pirate BLACKBEARD. He'll be doing some educational storytelling for kids 6 and older. Suggested donation is $3 per child. Proceeds benefit the National Autism Society. Shows are at 4 and 7pm.

CENTRAL NC PAGAN PRIDE DAY FESTIVAL - Sat Sep 20
Once again, we'll have a booth set up at this Fairgrounds event. This is a very family friendly, day is full of workshops, music, and fun for people interested in earth-based spirituality, and all things magical. More information at:

BAGGINSES BIRTHDAY BASH - Sept 21, 5-9pm
Join us on the anniversary of the birthdays of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins for some Lord of the Rings style fun! We'll have a costume contest, open filking, dancing, mathom exchange, games, movies, snacks, drinks, etc. BYOM (bring your own mead). Admission is $5 and a mathom if you wish to participate in the gift exchange. Tickets will be available for purchase (in store or over the phone) Sep 1. We only have room for about 50 people.

What is a mathom?
A mathom is basically a present whose use has been forgotten. Oftentimes hobbits will pass old presents to new recipients. We suggest you dig some old, weird, useless thing out of the back of your attic and wrap it up.

HOGWARTS HALLOWEEN! - Oct 26 5-9pm at Tir na Nog, Raleigh
Once again, we are teaming up with Tir na Nog Irish Pub in downtown Raleigh to bring you a fantastic evening of wizardly fun! There'll be a special menu, butterbeer available, costume contest, music by Hawthorn & Holly, the Blibbering Humdingers, and others. Fortune tellers, games and more! Additional Details forthcoming.

SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISM- Most Thursdays, 7:30pm
The local chapter of this Medieval/Renaissance re-creation group will continue having meetings & classes at our store during through Christmas.
