In the morning, Merlin packed everything up and made the fire ring disappear. Once they were ready to go, he assisted Kilgharrah onto his shoulder and began walking. They were both lost in thought for a while, until Merlin hit a question. “How is Camelot protected?” he asked.
“After its decline, the Sidhe cast multiple wards around it. I am not entirely sure of the nature of these wards, but together we should be able to defeat them,” Kilgharrah replied.
“Did any looting or plundering take place before this happened?”
“I believe that did occur, but not on a large scale. In fact, it was that which prompted the Sidhe to cast the wards.”
Merlin stopped walking. “How does it look?”
“How does Camelot look?”
“Yes. Is it like I remember or is it decayed?”
“I believe it is a bit decayed, but the Sidhe’s wards inhibit further decay, so it is not too bad.”
Merlin sighed and began walking again. “That’s a relief to hear. I miss my old home.”
“That is only natural.”
“Wow, Kilgharrah, you are actually being sensitive about this. I’m impressed.”
“Do not get used to it.”
Merlin chuckled. “Don’t worry, I won’t.”
