Part 11
Merlin let the doctor out and climbed back upstairs to check on Arthur.
Merlin threw an afghan over Arthur, passed out in the chair. He sighed and shook his head. There was no way he was going to get Arthur to bed now.
Merlin picked up the glasses and the empty bottle and headed downstairs. He had almost reached the bottom when the door chimed. He put what he was carrying on the hall table and opened the door for the undertaker.
“Top of the stairs, second door on the left.” Merlin told them. “His suit is on the foot of the bed. Call if you need anything.”
The undertakers nodded and headed up the stairs.
Merlin picked up the glasses and bottle and headed to the kitchen. He put the glasses in the sink and the bottle in the bin.
Merlin had one more thing he had to do. He went to the phone and dialed. He waited for an answer.
“Gwen, he's dead.” Merlin waited for her response.
Gwen sighed. “How is Arthur handling it?”
“He passed out. Drunk off his ass.” Merlin told her. “Morgana is here. She's in no fit state either.”
“Did she make it in time?” Gwen asked. “Uther wanted to see her.”
“Yes. Uther wanted to know she had learned to behave. She hasn't. She still uses magick but she lied to Uther on his deathbed.”
“Your idea?”
“Yes. It made his passing easier. When are you coming?”
“I’ll be there by midday.” Gwen sighed deeply. “I'll need to tie up some loose ends here first.”
“Arthur needs you.” Merlin smiled to himself. “He's been an even bigger asshole without you here to make him behave.”
Gwen laughed. “As soon as I can. Good night, Merlin.”
“Good night, Gwen.” Merlin hung up the phone and headed back upstairs to check on things.
