Part 9
Morgana sat up suddenly. It was dark and she felt uneasy. Not an unusual feeling considering where she was at the moment.
She turned on the lamp on the night table. She had been placed on top of the bed and a blanket had been pulled over her.
It was obvious to her that Arthur didn't do it. It must have been Merlin. The thought of Merlin carrying her in his arms made her smile.
Merlin reclined in a chair in the study with Arthur. He sat up. “Arthur, she's awake.”
Arthur sighed. “Let me guess…. The magick thing.”
Merlin chuckled as he stood up. “You two should probably talk since you have made overtures to reconcile her inheritance.”
Arthur looked at the empty glass in his hand. “I'm just glad she's home. Let her know we can iron out the details tomorrow. I'm too drunk and she's had a shock.”
Merlin nodded and left the room.
Morgana, in her dressing gown, opened the door before Merlin could knock. “Merlin….” She smiled.
Merlin blushed. “Arthur would like to talk to you tomorrow to get the ball rolling. You know the house and funds.”
“Merlin, come in.” Morgana stepped out of the doorway to let him pass.
Merlin shook his head. “I should let you rest.”
“I insist.” Morgana smiled.
“Okay but just for a few minutes.” Merlin walked in and looked around. “It must be strange being back here.”
Morgana looked him up and down. “Strange finding one of my kind at my brother's right hand.”
“He didn't know when he hired me.” Merlin started feeling a bit warm. “So do you seduce every man you meet? Or only the ones with magick?”
Morgana laughed. “I don't think Arthur would approve.”
Merlin shrugged. “Does that really matter to you?”
“No.” Morgana stepped closer and stroked his cheek. “But we can think about it, can't we?”
Merlin pulled her closer. “That's all I can think about.” He started to lean into a kiss.
Morgana put her finger to his lips. “When I go to Cornwall, come with me.”
“To settle you in?” Merlin winked.
Morgana nodded and pulled away. She opened the door. “Can you have someone bring me something to eat?”
“Of course.” Merlin walked out the door. “Until Cornwall then.”
“Yes. Cornwall.” Morgana shut the door.
Part 10
After stopping at the kitchen to order Morgana some dinner, Merlin went back to the study to find Arthur pouring the last of the whiskey in the decanter into his glass.
“Thirsty?” Merlin asked as he took the decanter from Arthur and sat it on the table.
“It's been one of those nights.” Arthur looked at the liquid in his glass. “No judging.”
Merlin went to the cupboard and took out another bottle of whiskey. “Not judging. Just asking.”
“Hmph. I hear judging in your voice.” Arthur took a sip and put the glass on the table. “You took your time with my sister. Something you should tell me?”
Merlin sat down. “I'd like to go with her to Cornwall to help set up her house. She’ll need a staff.”
“It's not that big of a house. A cook and a maid should be all she needs. They can be hired through an agency.” Arthur took another sip. “You fancy my sister!”
Merlin felt his cheeks burn as he sighed.
Arthur laughed. “Must be the bloody magick thing.” He pointed his finger at Merlin. “You watch yourself with her. She's trouble even without the magick thing.”
Merlin grinned. “Oh I can tell.”
“Have a drink, Merlin.” Arthur picked up the empty decanter and frowned.
Merlin held up the new bottle of whiskey. “Looking for this?”
Arthur smiled and passed out.
Merlin chuckled.
