Part 5

Merlin pulled into a long tree lined driveway. He pulled up to the door of a large Elizabethan manor house. He shut off the engine and looked at Morgana.

“I suppose I should get out.” Morgana looked at the house.

“That's usually what you do when you get to your destination.” Merlin put his hand on the door handle and started to open the door.

“Wait!” Morgana grabbed his arm. “What if no one talks to me because of….”

“Morgana, if they snub you they were never someone you should be giving your attention to. Just open the door and get out.” Merlin opened the door and got out.

Morgana closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened the door and got out.

Arthur walked out of the front door. “Morgana.”

“Arthur, am I too late?” Morgana glanced at Merlin who was taking her bags from the boot.

“No, but you need to hurry. The doctor says he won't last much longer.” Arthur frowned.

“No staff to greet me?” Morgana asked.

“It's not that kind of visit.” Arthur turned and went back through the door.

Morgana followed Arthur up the stairs to a darkened room.

“Father, she's just arrived.” Arthur sat in a chair by the foot of the bed.

“Morgana….” Uther's voice was weak and shaky.

“Yes Father.” Morgana sat on the edge of the bed. “I'm here.”

“Have you turned away from your evil ways? Have you stopped using sorcery?” Uther's voice was getting weaker.

Merlin caught Morgana's eye and gave her a warning look.

“Yes Father. I have given up sorcery.” Morgana lied.

“Good.” Uther reached out his hand to her.

Morgana took his hand. It was frail and thin. Not like the man she remembered. She held his hand in the dimly lit room and waited for her Father‘s last breath.
