Morgana was pacing the doctor’s exam room, even though she still felt terrible. Finally the door opened and the doctor entered. “Please have a seat.”
Morgana sat down but did not sit still. “Doctor, what’s wrong with me?”
The doctor sat on a chair across from her. “Mrs. Emrys, your condition should resolve itself in about nine months.”
“I’m going to die in nine months?!”
The doctor reached out a hand and patted her knee. “No, you’re not going to die. Not at all. Mrs. Emrys, you are expecting a baby.”
“I am?”
The doctor smiled. “You absolutely are.”
“So all the nausea, the headaches, and the bodyaches . . .”
“Hormonal changes. Your body is adjusting to the new life within you. Congratulations!”
Morgana smiled. “I’m pregnant! Oh thank you, doctor! My husband will be thrilled!”
“You’re welcome.” He stood. “Now, get out of here. You have some good news for your husband.”
Morgana shook the offered hand and left, hardly paying attention to anything on her way out.
