In hindsight, it assumed that Arthur had really meant it when he said that Merlin had ‘stolen his heart’.

It really thought that Arthur’s heart had been stolen by Merlin and it decided that that wouldn’t do at all.

So, it did the only thing there was to do.

When Arthur walked into the living room after a long day of working, Merlin was sitting on the couch, a present on his lap. His eyes were black when he met Arthur’s and stood up.

“For you,” Merlin growled, even though there was a smile on his face as he handed Arthur the present.

Arthur raised a brow at the present, the pure black eyes, and Merlin’s bloody hands. It was rare for it to take over Merlin completely. “For me?”

It eagerly nodded and gave a toothy grin. “Open it,” it urged.

Arthur went over to the couch and sat down, carefully opening the present and the box the wrapping revealed to find a bloody human heart. He frowned deeply and looked at it kneeling in front of him.

“I made sure he was punished for stealing your heart,” it growled, still grinning. “Like it?”

Arthur’s own blue and black eyes widened slightly when he understood what it meant. “I…I do,” he said with a smile. “But when I meant that Merlin stole my heart, I didn’t mean he really stole it.”

It frowned at that, confused. Arthur gently smiled and reached forward to touch Merlin’s cheek. “It’s just a phrase. All it means is that I fell completely in love with him. That’s all.”

It frowned deeper, and carefully, Arthur took its hand and put it to his chest, letting it feel his heartbeat thumping in his chest. “Feel? I’m okay. My heart isn’t really gone,” he assured it. Sometimes, it was very protective over him, even to the point where it would take over completely and force Merlin away.

It looked at Arthur skeptically, but nodded after a moment and leaned forward, reaching out and biting the area over Arthur’s heart. “Mine mine mine.”

Arthur closed his eyes and groaned in pleasure. “Yours,” he repeated, opening his eyes when he felt its mouth pull away. Looking down, he saw deep bite marks on his skin. He hummed as he touched the mark and looked at it. “How about we put this heart to good use, hm?”

It looked at Arthur and tilted its head. “Dinner?”

Arthur nodded. “Absolutely,” he assured. “And can Merlin join?”

It nodded after a second and its eyes slid shut, opening after a moment to reveal clear blue, a tear falling as the eyes tried to focus again.

Arthur smiled gently and cupped Merlin’s cheek, wiping away the tear. “Come. Let’s make dinner.”

With a nod, Merlin finally stood up and suddenly shuddered, closing his eyes again. This time, when his eyes opened, the blue and black were mixed together.

Smiling, Arthur handed Merlin the heart and stood up, kissing Merlin and groaning when Merlin bit his lower lip.

Holding the heart, Merlin hummed as he went into the kitchen, Arthur following behind him.
