One day after school, after they’d been dating a while, Morgana found Merlin. “I just don’t think I can do this anymore,” she told him.
“What’s going on?” Merlin replied.
“Today’s workload is immense. It’s like they know I had a fight with father this morning, that Arthur left without me, and I missed seeing you this morning. What now? Is it going to rain?” A crackle of thunder shook the ground they stood on.
Looking up, Merlin said, “Let’s get inside.” They walked back into the school and watched as rain lashed the outside. He gave her a hug. “Your father is always going to be a pain; you can’t change him. And Arthur is a pillock half the time. But we can definitely do something about your homework.”
“How can you stay so calm?”
“Because I’ve had equally bad days. Come on, let’s go to the library and sort your homework. It’s probably nothing you can’t handle, but just a lot. I can help, if you need me. Lean on me; it’s what boyfriends are for.”
Morgana pulled out a little from the hug. She had tears in her eyes. “Thank you so much, Merlin. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Oh, you’d probably be tearing Arthur a new one by now. I’d sure like to.”
“Aw, it’s so cute when you get defensive for me.”
“Anytime, love. Just for you.”
