Ellie was nine and a half months old when it happened. She let go of the coffee table and walked two steps to Morgana, who was sitting on the sofa. Morgana had been watching the television when it happened, so she didn’t see. But Merlin, who had been watching Ellie, saw.
“Morgana!” He exclaimed.
“What is it?” She looked down at Ellie. “How did you get there?”
“She walked! I saw her!”
“You’re joking. She seriously walked?”
“She just let go of the table and took two steps to you.”
“And I missed it? Her first steps and I missed it! I am going to be kicking myself about that for a long time.”
Merlin walked over to her and put a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t. She’s going to be taking more and more steps now. You won’t miss those.”
Morgana reached down and picked up Ellie. The baby squealed as Morgana snuggled her to her chest. “Who’s the big girl? Ellie is!!
Ellie giggled as Merlin reached down and ruffled her hair. Soon it would be nonstop walking and thus getting into things, but for now, they were going to enjoy this happy milestone.
