Cause you’re a forever kind of guy
https://amarie-authiel.livejournal.com/6439.html Morgana stopped by the door and watched them from a distance. Her free hand pressed against the small of her back. The hand with the very formal and elaborate invitation rested on her large belly.
With a small sigh she noted how she had produced an heir and soon two spares to the throne, and so had effectively plowed aside the one main complaint that could be made against the King settling down with another man. Yet they still sat there like Merlin simply just happened to be Arthur’s favorite person to discuss formal dinner events with and that's all there was to it.
Her thoughts were not quite fair, she knew. The slow approach was necessary. Merlin was still a teacher. Hoards of newshounds would make his daily life very difficult and he was not ready to let go. He had quietly become more and more integrated into the royal family and their affairs, but not yet officially, not yet openly, not yet a prince at the king’s side till the end of their days.
With muted steps she came towards them. Another year, another invitation. This year she knew -they all knew- that Merlin’s young pupils were moving on and he would be assigned a new set of younglings. Unless...
Wordlessly she handed Merlin the invitation, wordlessly Arthur pretended that the envelope did not contain the family’s acceptance, his heart and yearning soul, and an underlying implication of engagement and a very public wedding. Merlin calmly met her eyes and said with the calm kindness she had learned to expect from him. «I am honoured. I accept.»
With a wide smile she turned away and left the room. The invitation still in her hands, because something far more interesting had claimed Merlin’s attention and his hands would be busy for some time.
