Everyone's asleep except me (EP)
A mixtape for empty nights

This was originally meant to be a compilation of songs loosely based off atmospheres as depicted in Simenon's Three Bedrooms In Manhattan, which I personally think is beautifully written, but then one of those nights I wrote a short paragraph from a woman's point of view and decided to base this mixtape off that instead. So it has become a combination of influences. Six tracks in all.

Night drowns the city in mortar. A motel at the edge of the city with the florescent sign; she hates as it was too showy. No one comes here because of the filth on the sheets, so why should they bother hanging up that ridiculous sign? She lies here, in a bed with two depressions for a body other than hers and scratchy sheets, feeling much colder than she'd liked, more distant than she wanted to be; the city lights streams in like the artificial sun. For an instant she wonders if the man beside her would recognise and know her when he woke up. Her as she knew herself. No, you are silly, she told herself over and over until she felt her laughter bubbling to the surface where it lingered for an instant. It amazed her how short-lived everything has been last night, a rush and he simply being another man she had slept with when she felt lonely. Among the rest. And like the dozens before him they were bound in this hotel room at this very moment, tied by only a chance meeting and an opportunity that one of them bothered to grab and the other one, her, well...she simply held as tightly as she could. Though she knew for sure, that by morning these thoughts no longer would matter as they would be gone, sometimes she wished one of them would stay at most for breakfast that someone would love her as fiercely as she used to. Silly. 'They' wouldn't even exist. He would leave, back to the life he was running away from. Perhaps he would be back when he tired of it. Yes, she would like that, as much as she did staring into his pale-as-skin eyes below the yellow lamps, but somehow she knew that they knew it would just be for another night and nothing more. Then, her phone rings.

From Here To Anywhere - Last Days of April
Always yours to throw away
From here to anywhere

Hotel Song - Regina Spektor
Come in, come in
Come into my world I've got to show
Show show you
Come into my bed
I've got to know
Know know you

Under The Sheets - Ellie Goulding
Her clothes were never off
We still have hours to run about
To scale the map, scale the map, to get us back on track
...
We're under the sheets and you’re killin’ me

Cold As You - Taylor Swift
And you do what you want cause I'm not what you wanted
...
And I know you wouldn't have told nobody if I died, died for you

Under My Skin - Rachael Yamagata
Would you please get out from under my skin
For I can't begin this yet
And I don't know what my intentions are
They're speaking in a different tongue

Breathe (2am) - Anna Nalick
There's a light at each end of this tunnel
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around
