Once again, against all the odds and paradigms and expectations, a Hopkins family outing is FUN! *gasp*

'kay, so it wasn't the whole family, just myself and the folks, but we decided to go play yokel at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta - a gig that's been running for years but that we haven't been to since I was yay high. So we went, saw the sights, smelled the smells, 'ooh'ed' and 'ahh'ed' at the shaped balloons - anything from the Churchill dog and the Monster.com, well, monster to a humongous motorbike with rider (how in the hell do they do that?!)

And then the big event - what they call the Nightglow - a field full of tethered hot air balloons, all firing their burners (almost) in time to music after dark. Sounds unbelievably cheesy, and yeah, it kinda was, but you know what?

It. Rocked.

The pics just don't do it justice (needed a wide angle lens, really...) but all of a sudden, I felt like I was a little kid at the fireworks again.

Roll on next year!

Just hope the car park is a little easier to get out of - it took almost as long just to get on the road as the 'glow itself...

Bright light...

Because even at a hot air balloon festival, there's pretty clouds.

One balloon came down halfway through, so they just carried on burning with no balloon. (The blue one in front of it didn't manage to inflate until a few minutes before that one went down - had a huge cheer from the audience when they finally managed it!)

Couple of vids, and yay! Got the sound to work on the camera this time!

Had to be Bond, really.

This one just for the guy you can hear standing behind me. lol
