I am a poet
when the tingle in my fingertips
becomes the itch to hold a pen,
and I can wait no longer.
I am a poet
when I prod the squares into their slots,
and fire shoots from my pen,
and the ink consumes the page.
I am a poem
when ink moves backwards,
under my fingernails,
into my very blood.
I am a poem
when I watch my fingers fingering a pen,
and I know not from where the power comes
to make them move.
I am a poem
when I am an empty shell.
No longer content to appease my Muse,
I become the Isaac instead.
I am a poet
when He opens up my eyes,
lifts my head.
makes me sing.
