In his hour of need, he would have turned to his goddess, his mistress for knowledge and guidance. He would have asked, and she would have led him to answers. Even to think it, she would rise to meet his need as she did every time he needed even to know where he’d left his car keys ( Read more... )

A dream unfolded, young children, animals, trees and the sun. Crisp, white and vivid left her squinting into the sunlight as the playful laughter and melodious chants of old Greek songs filled the air. She was happy, and that was clearly manifested in the images moving about inside her mind ( ... )

When he did look up, it was after the mamba already had its fangs in the rattler's hide. Still, the sight of Kate's power unfurled before him was a disturbing thing, to know the extent of that rage and feel it propelled towards him, if not at him.

He released the snake and extended his own arm towards her without thinking, calling that rage to him, into him, using what he could of his power in a futile effort to dispel that fury.

Stop. he pleaded silently even as she came to his side, his wrist already pressed to his mouth as he sucked at the snake bite. Those first aid classes his parents had forced on him as a boy might save his life, if he'd been quick enough. Draw at the wound until blood could be tasted, then spit out the venom and go again...

Spitting his first mouthful out on the floor, he brought his wrist to his mouth again, meeting her gaze. That snake's a killer, and my metabolism is pretty damn high. I think I need to get to a hospital, fast.

His reasons were clear. While the both of them were made with higher purposes in mind, they still inhabitated mortal bodies. In any case that their bodies were threatened they had to treat them as any other would.

For the first time, Katie was worried. If they waited too long, Dog's body would die and his soul would drift into the next world and that was something she couldn't stand to even think about.

She'd spent a few days thinking about a certain way to keep her lover safe; away from harm in a more divine approach, however now was not the time to be talking about it. Time was of the essence.

'Alright..' she nodded, wrapping one hand under his arm, and the other over his chest, securing him close. 'Close your eyes, baby.' she whispered before closing her own and teleporting them around the corner from the emergency room of Cedars-Sinai.

Obediently, Dog closed his eyes and laid his head against her as she held him, completely servile as he always was with her even when the world felt as if it was tilting under him. He'd never experienced anything like it, but as the energies moved within and around him he could only describe it as the universe bending over double, gently sliding him from one end of the rope to the other before springing flat again...

When he stilled, he opened his eyes and found himself somewhere else entirely. It took a moment for confusion to leave him as he spotted a sign, recognized the feel of the building...

Rising slowly to his feet, he glanced at Katie, then back at the building and shook his head. He wasn't going to ask how...he knew better.

"Blind faith, this day." he muttered to himself as he nodded for her to follow him in through the doors of the ER.

Slipping her hand into his, she walked in and closed her eyes briefly, momentarily overwhelmed by the need of so many. It sent chills up her spine.

Once they got to the triage area, she made direct eye contact with the nurse who didn't seem so eager to be there that night, and spoke low.

'We need some help. My boyfriend was bitten by a snake.' she kept the connection. No sooner than the words left her lips, the woman turned and urged them to follow her.

Glancing back at Dog, she smiled pleasantly. 'Hey, it worked, didn't it?'

It did, but you influence those that don't submit to you as I do. he pointed out silently, raising an eyebrow at her. It's not my place to question you, but it unsettles me. If it is your will, please don't use your divine influence on my behalf.

Roughly an hour later, Dog had been admitted, seen, and treated with antivenom, suffering little more than some nausea, dizziness, and chest pain. An irregular EKG had the doctor advising an overnight hospital stay, but Dog declined and agreed to follow a regiment of rest and medication to treat the problem.

Finally allowed to put his shirt back on, looking tired and pale, but otherwise fine, Dog stood up from the gurney he'd been occupying and glanced to Katie with a small smile.

"Another day, another victory for man." he observed. "I need a damn nap."

I have my reasons. she stated simply as they walked the corridor to the treatment room

Katie held quiet vigil in the corner as Dog was treated. All the while she thought hard about the things that consumed her mind through the past week and it only continued as she watched him put his shirt back on.

Getting up, she nodded while paying close attention to the feeling inside her. There were things she needed to talk to him about, but for now, she would take him home and when he woke, she would approach him.

'And you'll get one..' she assured him. 'A nice long one.'

He smiled gratefully, but the smile faded to a frown as her energy touched him. Sorting through the threads, he regarded her soberly as her tugged his tank top on over his head and moved over to her.

"The night stirs with true darkness." he observed, reaching up to touch her cheek gently with the backs of his fingers. "And the shadows cover all the world, including mine. What troubles you, my lady?"

Katie allowed herself to look at him, but even after his spurring touch and his low volumed words, she still didn't think it was time to have the discussion with him.

'It's merely a voice within that doesn't care to reason. But this discussion is best saved for when you are rested and clearminded.' she spoke, putting her hand into his, giving it a warm squeeze. 'Can we please just go?'

He didn't like putting off the discussion, didn't like anything that upset her...but he also wasn't about to argue with his goddess, even if she was his lover now.

"Ever your servant." was his quiet reply as he leaned in and kissed her forehead before drawing back with a sigh, ushering her out of the exam room. "Will we go as we came? Or you want me to call a cab?"

She knew he knew there was something on her mind. Call it divine intuition or just a lover to lover hunch, but she knew he wouldn't leave it for long. In fact, she'd be suprised if he lasted as long as the trip home.

His words hit her, causing her to stop, grab his face into her hands before he retreated too far and stared deeply into his eyes.

'You need to stop doing that...' she whispered. 'You are so much more than that.'

With a heavy sigh Katie slid her hand over his eyes, causing him to close them and took them home. If he had anything to say in regards to her words, he could speak them now. She didn't want to hold back anymore.

The words as she said them had weight, one that was shocking to every one of his sensibilities. The notion that she could mean them with such sincerity, that she could see him in that light was simply incomprehensible to him.

Any protest he had died momentarily on his tongue as she urged his eyes shut and the same feeling swept over him...worlds bending to meet divine will, placing them back where they had been before, in the dark-colored comforts of his own living room.

Opening his eyes when she allowed it, he met her gaze with the calm patience of just that: a loyal servant, an acolyte at her altar, waiting for the will of his goddess to be spoken. Unlike any mere acolyte, however, he let an arm drape around her waist to hold her close, his other hand reaching up to slide through her hair, knowing that she particularly enjoyed having her hair touched and toyed with.

He lived to serve his goddess...but he also knew how to soothe the woman he loved as few men could love a woman.

Leaning into his touch, Katie dipped her head down and allowed for her eyes to meet with his. To him, she would always be his goddess and through her complete existence, she never knew a love as great as the one she felt for him. It was cognent for her to reach the solution that she had, but Dog might not agree. There was only one way to find out.

Katie parted her lips and breathed out heavily.

'I could have lost you tonight. That bothers me, and I will not accept explainations or the way of things. I do not wish to possess you, but Dog? I can't stomach living without you. I want to be here to constantly protect you, but what if what happened, happens again? I need for you to think about something, and think about it hard...' she spoke softly, reaching up to press her palm to his weary face.

'I want you to walk beside me, and not as my servant. I need you to stay with me..as an immortal like us.'

It took a full minute for what she said to actually sink in, to penetrate his mind and make any sort of rational sense...and even when he understood, it still made none.

"By my blood, I am a Titan, removed from divinity." he replied softly, shaking his head a little. "What you're...you...what you're offering me is godhood. I don't...I have no right to accept that."

'I know..' she nodded slowly. 'But you're wrong. By blood, you are Titan and you belong there. Even now.' she nodded seriously.

There was a measure of fear in her eyes after he finished speaking. By Dog stating that he had no right to accept her offer, she wouldn't be able to secure his existence. Incidents like the one they just experienced would most certainly end tragically the next time and she would return to another lifetime of eternities of solitude.

She wasn't sure she could do that.

He shook his head instantly at her insistence, turning his back on her to walk away a few steps as he raked his hands back through his hair. She was wrong...it went against everything in him to dispute her, but he was sure that she was wrong ( ... )
