In his hour of need, he would have turned to his goddess, his mistress for knowledge and guidance. He would have asked, and she would have led him to answers. Even to think it, she would rise to meet his need as she did every time he needed even to know where he’d left his car keys

Her face turned up into the air, her eyes closed and a smile spread across her lips. Even under her eyelids, the sun burned a myriad of colors, but after moments, the ebullient sun dimmed which caused her to open her eyes and gaze about the sky. Darkness moved in quickly, but not the type that comforted her and her people. This darkness was immoral even to her kind.
As the clouds spiralled through each other nightmarishly, Katie tried to move but felt trapped-stuck in the now voided dream that held her hostage and then it struck her.
There was something threatening her on the other side.
Struggling to free herself from the bonds of slumber, Katie stopped and looked down. The forces of her divine authority bled in quickly as she chanted the words, over and over to her servants near and far.
Resurrect me now. The way forward now falls into my shadow. Of roads and crossways; of Heaven and Earth and Sea as well. Invoke me.
Her eyes flashed open, displaying the warm, rich darkness of what she personified as a mere mortal. In one slow blink, she turned her head towards him and let a hand fall in an outward stretch. If he looked up, he would only see the blackest shade of onyx and a unrestrained primordial power. One that was very upset.
The tips of her fingers blackened and formed into one of her sacred serpents heads. The color travelled up her arm, continuing to morph smooth skin into the glistened scales of a black mamba. It inched closer, giving the tiger no warning of its impending attack until it was too late. With fangs now embedded into the top of her preys head, the mamba slowly withdrew, taking the evil away to destroy and consume it entirely.
Blinking once more, Katies eyes returned, and she hesitated not in getting to Dog's side.

He released the snake and extended his own arm towards her without thinking, calling that rage to him, into him, using what he could of his power in a futile effort to dispel that fury.
Stop. he pleaded silently even as she came to his side, his wrist already pressed to his mouth as he sucked at the snake bite. Those first aid classes his parents had forced on him as a boy might save his life, if he'd been quick enough. Draw at the wound until blood could be tasted, then spit out the venom and go again...
Spitting his first mouthful out on the floor, he brought his wrist to his mouth again, meeting her gaze. That snake's a killer, and my metabolism is pretty damn high. I think I need to get to a hospital, fast.

For the first time, Katie was worried. If they waited too long, Dog's body would die and his soul would drift into the next world and that was something she couldn't stand to even think about.
She'd spent a few days thinking about a certain way to keep her lover safe; away from harm in a more divine approach, however now was not the time to be talking about it. Time was of the essence.
'Alright..' she nodded, wrapping one hand under his arm, and the other over his chest, securing him close. 'Close your eyes, baby.' she whispered before closing her own and teleporting them around the corner from the emergency room of Cedars-Sinai.

When he stilled, he opened his eyes and found himself somewhere else entirely. It took a moment for confusion to leave him as he spotted a sign, recognized the feel of the building...
Rising slowly to his feet, he glanced at Katie, then back at the building and shook his head. He wasn't going to ask how...he knew better.
"Blind faith, this day." he muttered to himself as he nodded for her to follow him in through the doors of the ER.

Once they got to the triage area, she made direct eye contact with the nurse who didn't seem so eager to be there that night, and spoke low.
'We need some help. My boyfriend was bitten by a snake.' she kept the connection. No sooner than the words left her lips, the woman turned and urged them to follow her.
Glancing back at Dog, she smiled pleasantly. 'Hey, it worked, didn't it?'

Roughly an hour later, Dog had been admitted, seen, and treated with antivenom, suffering little more than some nausea, dizziness, and chest pain. An irregular EKG had the doctor advising an overnight hospital stay, but Dog declined and agreed to follow a regiment of rest and medication to treat the problem.
Finally allowed to put his shirt back on, looking tired and pale, but otherwise fine, Dog stood up from the gurney he'd been occupying and glanced to Katie with a small smile.
"Another day, another victory for man." he observed. "I need a damn nap."

Katie held quiet vigil in the corner as Dog was treated. All the while she thought hard about the things that consumed her mind through the past week and it only continued as she watched him put his shirt back on.
Getting up, she nodded while paying close attention to the feeling inside her. There were things she needed to talk to him about, but for now, she would take him home and when he woke, she would approach him.
'And you'll get one..' she assured him. 'A nice long one.'

"The night stirs with true darkness." he observed, reaching up to touch her cheek gently with the backs of his fingers. "And the shadows cover all the world, including mine. What troubles you, my lady?"

'It's merely a voice within that doesn't care to reason. But this discussion is best saved for when you are rested and clearminded.' she spoke, putting her hand into his, giving it a warm squeeze. 'Can we please just go?'

"Ever your servant." was his quiet reply as he leaned in and kissed her forehead before drawing back with a sigh, ushering her out of the exam room. "Will we go as we came? Or you want me to call a cab?"

His words hit her, causing her to stop, grab his face into her hands before he retreated too far and stared deeply into his eyes.
'You need to stop doing that...' she whispered. 'You are so much more than that.'
With a heavy sigh Katie slid her hand over his eyes, causing him to close them and took them home. If he had anything to say in regards to her words, he could speak them now. She didn't want to hold back anymore.

Any protest he had died momentarily on his tongue as she urged his eyes shut and the same feeling swept over him...worlds bending to meet divine will, placing them back where they had been before, in the dark-colored comforts of his own living room.
Opening his eyes when she allowed it, he met her gaze with the calm patience of just that: a loyal servant, an acolyte at her altar, waiting for the will of his goddess to be spoken. Unlike any mere acolyte, however, he let an arm drape around her waist to hold her close, his other hand reaching up to slide through her hair, knowing that she particularly enjoyed having her hair touched and toyed with.
He lived to serve his goddess...but he also knew how to soothe the woman he loved as few men could love a woman.

Katie parted her lips and breathed out heavily.
'I could have lost you tonight. That bothers me, and I will not accept explainations or the way of things. I do not wish to possess you, but Dog? I can't stomach living without you. I want to be here to constantly protect you, but what if what happened, happens again? I need for you to think about something, and think about it hard...' she spoke softly, reaching up to press her palm to his weary face.
'I want you to walk beside me, and not as my servant. I need you to stay with me..as an immortal like us.'

"By my blood, I am a Titan, removed from divinity." he replied softly, shaking his head a little. "What you're...you...what you're offering me is godhood. I don't...I have no right to accept that."

There was a measure of fear in her eyes after he finished speaking. By Dog stating that he had no right to accept her offer, she wouldn't be able to secure his existence. Incidents like the one they just experienced would most certainly end tragically the next time and she would return to another lifetime of eternities of solitude.
She wasn't sure she could do that.

"My mother was a magician." he began after a moment, still facing away from her as he let his head loll back for a moment. "An assistant...powerful translocator. She could vanish and reappear anywhere. She served, as I do...as my father died doing. They both had great power, great ability...and they wasted it as entertainers."
He finally turned to face her then, confusion etching deeply troubled lines in his features. "You're the Queen of Night, you were born to divinity, meant for it by powers even greater than the gods. I was born this way...and to be as I am is all I've ever wanted. I don't want power, I never have. There's danger in that...I have no power, only the charge of Hope. I don't want to rule mortal men, I only want to serve them. If you make me as you are...my lady, my love...I fear what I could become."
