News Story

I just saw a News report on TV that really upset me. In Beebe(a small podunk town near Conway, for those of you not in Arkansas), a family was mourning the death of someone. This man was a soldier in the Army National Guard and was killed while overseas. There was a group of people standing across the street holding picket signs. Apparently this is some type of church group, from what I understood. They were protesting. "What on Earth could they be protesting about at a soldier's funeral?" you ask? The signs said things like "God hates fags" and the so-called typical protesting stuff. But this man was a soldier. He couldn't have been out and in the military. So that wasn't it. Then they showed other signs. They said "Don't praise the dead" and "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "soldiers are going to hell". They had children holding some of the signs as well. I could go on with other appalling signs, but I'll stop with those. One man was interviewed. He said that most people believe that God loves us, he loves this country and all countries, and he blesses us all. This group believes that God hates us, this country, and is trying to destroy us by killing all of our soldiers. They plan to travel across the country and protest at as many soldiers' funerals as possible. They are verbally and emotionally attacking families of the soldiers that fight for them to have the right to protest at all. They have no respect for the dead, or the mourning families. I have so many other thoughts right now about this, but my mind is racing and I can't single any thought out. As you can tell, though, I'm furious and disgusted about this. I'm not exactly the most religious person, as many of you know, but I believe in God and I believe that God loves us.
On the other hand, though, there was another group of people there. They call themselves the Patriot Guard. They are a motorcycle group of mostly Veteran soldiers who travel the country protecting soldiers rights and families of fallen soldiers. Most of them have huge American Flags on the backs of their bikes. At many points during the protest, they took off the flags, and held them, spread out, almost like a barrier between the protesters and the funeral home. Thank God for people like them. Thats all I have on that now. If you have any questions about what happened, I'm sure you can find it online.
