I have to make serious changes in my spending habits or I'm gonna be broke if I live a long time!! I hate that. I have struggled for many years to control my spending. I think one problem is, when I worked at the hospital full time, I made good money and put half my check into the household expenses and the other half I could do whatever I wanted with. 7 years later and I'm STILL trying to break that habit. I even started looking for another part time job.
Two things I have done is cut back on cable and cell phone. It's not a great deal of difference, but enough so that I can put that money to another bill.
Last year I gave up shopping for lent - yeah, I really did that! It was a HUGE challenge for me. I'm doing the same this year. If I don't really NEED it, I'm not going to buy it. I'm hoping to extend that lenten sacrifice to the rest of my life as much as I can. I hope I can be successful in this.
I have been thinking of ways I can save money, like trying to walk or ride my bike instead of driving. Using my public library instead of buying books, though I almost always buy used now. I also need to get serious with my Etsy account and get that so it's not just sitting there. I don't have it set up very well and I know it. It's time consuming to fix it, but then, it's time consuming to play FrontierVille and it doesn't stop me.
Anyone reading this, if you have children, please teach teach them the importance of saving, avoiding credit cards, and shopping around and being patient about buying things they think they want.
