So way back in November, right before Thanksgiving, I contracted the stomach bug (thank you, Eliza and family), and was miserably sick for about four days. I managed to heal enough to enjoy Thanksgiving break at Matthew's (a while week with Violet and Grady!), then came back to Provo and promptly got sick again. For four weeks.

-___-

I had a sinus infection, nasty cough, heavy buildup of mucus (still dealing with that, actually), on-again-off-again cold, and double conjunctivitis. And yes, I went to work through it all (it is EASIER and MORE EFFICIENT to go to work sick than to write sub plans and leave some stranger in charge). It was pretty miserable. I feel like I missed Christmas, because I barely got to enjoy the lights and music and atmosphere and food and parties. I missed two weeks of Church, so I didn't get the spiritual side, either. :( Alas (earwax).

Christmas vacation was mostly me staying inside my parents' house, recuperating. I was on 10 pills at one point, and walking upstairs winded me worse than usual (hey, I'll admit my sedentary lifestyle often leaves me pathetic, but this was uber pathetic). Momma says I was wheezing, and I went to Target with Daddy once and plodded along as the pace of a snail, which is not something I do. Ever. I only have one speed: faster than you're comfortable with. My short friends (which is all of them) hate it. So for me to plod slower than a granny driving in snow is something of a big deal. Daddy walked ahead of me, and kept looking back to see if I was still there. I was. I just couldn't move any faster or I was going to have to sit down for half and hour and recover before making it to the back of the store.

Anywho, after 2 weeks of good food, good rest, good bed, a warm fireplace and 2 hours in a jacuzzi tub (mmmmm), I'm 90% better. I still have a lingering cough, and I expel more mucus than I think should be in my body (seriously, where does it come from?), but I'm completely functional, and that's lovely.

In other news, Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out, and here's an unpopular opinion for you: I didn't love it.

Whaaat?

It's true. I love all the new things (Poe, Finn, Rey, Kylo, Hux (aka General Weasley), and that awesome bread-muffin-thing Rey ate), but I was so bitterly disappointed in the plot. Their big schtick was this movie is an apology for the prequels (another thing I have issues with, but that's another rant for another time), so they apologize by remaking A New Hope.

...

...

...

Yeah.

And why? Why was that necessary? The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels show just how good the writing can be, how brilliant new stories are, and how to handle new characters, so why did Abrams and Kasdan remake Episode IV? The first two Death Stars were a bad idea (for the villains, not plot-wise, so we made a third, even bigger one, just so the heroes could have another trench run, but this time it's an even bigger trench run, and we bet you won't see the ending coming. I actually read a brilliant generic plot summary online, and at the end the author asked if it was Ep IV or Ep VII.

And don't even get me started on the Trio. I hated how they were handled. But that, too, is a rant for another time.

I'm not the only one who feels this way. When I got back with my game night boys, Eli asked me my opinion, and upon realizing we felt similarly, spent ten minutes ranting at each other. When the other boys showed up, we took a poll, and Guzman and Chuck agreed with us. Brian stayed quiet, so Eli said, "Well, four out of five of us have good taste."

That said, I saw the movie twice, will possibly see it a third time, have a Star Wars calendar on my wall (it had Kylo's face on it. I wasn't not going to buy it--but I also have a Rebels calendar, and that's in a place of honour in my bedroom ^__^) and look forward to the DVD so I can skip to the parts I like (especially that lightsaber fight at the end).

Still, I have high hopes for Ep VIII. There's much room for improvement, especially since Abrams isn't directing it (he's staying on as a producer, though. Rawr. They should consult with Filoni; he's proven himself an excellent storyteller, and he knows how to pack an emotional punch without copying a previous movie. Also he made me love original characters when I was convinced I only liked the Skywalkers. Heck, he made me expand my definition of Skywalker. But I digress.)

Anyway, despite my disappointment with VII, I'm still busy Star Warsing because Rebels is so good. :D

I've also gotten into a new show: Miraculous Ladybug. It's animated (because, as stated in previous entries, animated shows these days are so much better than live-action) and it's so cute I almost can't stand it. It's a French/Korean/American production set in Paris. I've had a hard time finding the French version (why?? It's set in Paris, and I'm pretty sure it aired there first, so why that language is so hard to find is beyond me) so I jump back and forth between the English and Korean versions. Nickelodeon, for whatever stupid reason, likes to air things out of order, so I use Korean to supplement when an episode is skipped in English. But Chat Noir's puns give me life, and I'd probably watch the show just for that, but I happen to adore all the characters, so it works out well.

Well, that's probably the longest fandom-related entry I've ever posted. Usually I pretend I'm normal and do normal things and only write about those normal things, but I'm finding that to be a gross misrepresentation of what I do. If I'm alone and you assume I'm doing normal things, you're probably wrong. If I'm alone, you should assume I'm doing something geeky, because that's usually correct. :D I love my life.
