Today

Today has been a productive day for me. It started this morning at about 10:30, the time I finally managed to show up at school to help Johanna with her Student Council service project (hey--if you want me there on time, don't have it start so early on a Saturday morning!)

(it started at 10:00)

(Yes, that's early. It's Saturday.)

We didn't leave until almost four. That's a mighty long day. And although I herd cattle all week long, having to do it on Saturday is super exhausting. When I got home, I collapsed on the couch and died.

What we did was paint a giant stencil outline of the United States on the blacktop, then paint all of the states. It went over very well, and the kids were a great help. One father, however.... Bless his heart, but he kept trying to tell me that I had painted West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland incorrectly. He was wrong, of course. I had the benefit of growing up there to prove me right. Plus I had the map. All he had was a public school education and a birthplace of Minnesota.

After I peeled my sorry carcass off the couch, I went out and bought a tie of the crimson and gold variety. I then spent 45 minutes curling my hair to make me look more like Hermione in preparation for the Halloween parties I attended tonight.

The first party was at Barlow's house. Barlow is a friend of Johanna's, and Johanna used to live there. When Jenna and Barlow (her real name is Amy, but my name is Amy, and everybody calls her Barlow (her last name) anyway, so that is what I will use) throw parties, I just pretend I belong in their friend group and show up. Anywho, this party rocked because Jenna's baby niece, Eve, was there and I got to hold her for a spell. I was quite happy. :)

Next, Johanna forced me into attending our tri-ward Halloween Dance. I despise dances. They are merely exercises in humiliation. The music was up so loud that I couldn't even hear the people standing next to me. I made an appearance on the dance floor, then escaped to an unmarked room (fine, it was number 3) with my trusty Hermione bag, previously stocked with books (yes, plural), and proceeded to read until Johanna and Beth were ready to leave.

It was probably the best dance I've attended since I was a youth! :)

I am now thoroughly stoked for Monday night. We're having a Ward FHE and my group has finally agreed to do a Harry Potter theme. Johanna's going to be Tonks, Beth will be Mrs. Weasley, I'll be Hermione, and Rose will be McGonagall. We spent tonight throwing together costumes and psyching ourselves up. I can't wait! We've got a gal in the group who will be Bellatrix and our dad will be Mad-Eye Moody. Now I just need to convince the Fry boys to be Harry and Ron (that is our project for Church tomorrow), ridiculously easy costumes to achieve.

Squee! I love Halloween!
