One of my former colleagues died yesterday due to complications after his gall bladder surgery. I just found out yesterday when one of my former supervisors posted it on Facebook. A few days back, one of the workforce staff posted a status in FB where they were asking if anyone can donate type O blood for him. Unfortunately, I have type A and at first I thought if one of his relatives was in the hospital. It didn’t occur to me that it was for himself. After that, this happens.
Later today, my friends and I would be going to his wake.
This was the second time a former co-worker died. The first one was five years ago and he died in his sleep and getting to his funeral was like climbing mountains literally as the guy lived on top of a mountain. HIs passing affected me because we were quite close then when I was an assistant supervisor on his team. He had his death anniversary a month ago.
This recent death had affected me as well because while we were never close, we worked in the same department and one distinct thing about him was he always calls me by his second name, not my first name and not my nickname as most of my former colleagues do. Also his tall frame could be easily seen in the office and his high pitched voice was something unexpected to hear from someone who is almost six feet tall. He’s crazy and his sense of humor is contagious. He and his friends are very close and they’re also one of the best people to rely on. They’re also one of the fun people to be with whenever there’s an outing.
He had left behind a wife, a son and a lot of people who looked up to him as a friend, colleague and mentor. He was so young, but as the saying goes, the good die young.
