Was just watching the TV footage of the fireworks in DC...the last song they performed in the Capital Steps concert before the NSO started up the 1812 Overture was "Cabaret."
A nice finish, to be sure, but does anyone else think that the political implications are a bit odd, given that the point of that song is essentially "Glorify the meaningless, frivolous things in life because fascism is taking root all around you while you stand there and do nothing" ?
I mean, for a Fourth of July concert? So was their program writer just oblivious? Or is there a message here?
