So, this is the second year M and I have made jam out of free fruit.  Last year, and this year too, we went out on fourth of July weekend and picked fruit from trees in Larkspur, and blackberries from our favorite berrying path, and then made jam.  Last year we also got a metric ton (aka 14 pounds) of golden plums from one house to make spiced ( Read more... )

We have a love of roast chicken. Few food things make M happier than a golden-roasted bird, so he's in charge of the roasting and the carving.

Happy Purim! I am a good gentile wife, so I made hamantaschen. This dough recipe would make a decent galette dough; rolled into a tart shape and topped with jam (or pre-cooked and topped with a ricotta-based topping) it would be superb.

One small problem - these lemons are unlike other Meyer lemons in that, while the zest and juice are headily fragrant, the juice is neither really sweet nor low-acid, nor is the pith very thin. Now that we're in the new place, last night was high time to inaugurate the new kitchen and dining room.
