No day is so bad ...

“If you don’t ruddy behave, I’m going to pull you out,” Mira muttered to herself as she blew the stray lock of hair from her face - again.

Despite the threat to her own hair, her attention was drawn back to the notebook in her hand. She had to write down the formula that had developed in her head on her walk across campus to the Apparation point before she lost it.

“Swishhhh,” she murmured, elongating the sound as she scribbled. “Wrist flick upppp.” She frowned at the paper, unsure if she’d be able to read her own writing later.

It was then that she tripped.

The book bag already precariously balanced on her shoulder went flying; she dropped her notebook and ended in a heap in the grass.

Mira blinked a moment and then frowned. “Out. You are coming out,” she threatened the same lock of hair that was now in her face again. She reached up only to find that her hands were tangled in the cardigan she thrown over her arm and she growled, indignant as she fought the material for the freedom of her hands.

Hearing giggles, her gaze shot to a few girls several meters away. Her blue eyes narrowed in her glare. “What are you looking at?”

*~*~*~*

“CASSIE!”

She’d had work, then class, an epic battle with her sweater and then back to work. A completely disheveled, harried looking Mira stood in the entryway of the cottage and she called again. She needed her sister. “CASS!!”

Cassie froze for a second, until she recognized her sister's shout as one of frustration rather than distress. Wearing a slight grin, she bounded out from her bedroom, sliding to a stop in front of her twin. Mira's hair was a mess, and Cassie brushed an errant lock out of her face before dropping a kiss on her cheek. "You bellowed, sister of mine?"

"Yes. I need your sympathy. And a bowl of ice cream," Mira pouted, blue eyes wide and beseeching on her twin. "You're not allowed to feel pity for me either when I share why I look like I Apparated through the Bermuda Triangle."

"Sympathy sans pity, I think I can manage that." Slipping an arm around her sister's waist, the young women walked together into the kitchen where Cassie got Mira settled at the table before
pulling out two bowls. As she scooped out ice cream for each of them - peanut butter and chocolate for Cassie and raspberry swirl for Mira - she spoke over her shoulder, "Okay, frozen dairy indulgence is on its way, tell me what happened."

"I was having a genius on the way from my Charms seminar to the Apparation point this morning, but my hair kept getting in the way, and then I tripped over an invisible something and lost my book bag, my genius formula and my sweater tried to eat my hands."

She took a big bite of her ice cream and savored the creamy goodness a moment before her lids fluttered back open and indignant irritation flared in her bright eyes. "A co-ed laughed at me. I couldn't get at my wand either. And my hair has been out to get me all day," she added, glaring at the errant lock as it, yet again, escaped her pony and fell into her eyes. "Plus, Harry's got a permanent stick up his arse. I could be projecting though. I wanted to hex someone all day." She flicked at the brown lock.

Frowning at the idea of some snotty little upstart laughing at her sister, Cassie mentally ran through the hexes she knew which wouldn't cause any real damage, but which hurt like a bitch. "Was it a co-ed you know? We could ambush her. I'm game," she suggested. "We could go after Harry, too, like sneaky Slytherin ninjas."

A smile tugged at Mira's lips despite the temper she found herself in. "Like old times, huh? I'll bait, you hex?"

A full grin blossomed then, and Mira's eyes crinkled with it. "It would be rather smashing to see, but unfortunately I don't know who the girl was - some Muggle - and I'm not sure if it's illegal or not to do something like that to the head of the Magical Law Enforcement." Her nose crinkled then as a giggle slipped out. "It might do him good though. He's awfully prone to brooding and a little fun never hurt anyone. It may even forestall his inevitable slide into curmudgeony."

"Well damn," Cassie replied, sticking a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth and sucking on it thoughtfully. "It would be fun to have a go at the Boy Who Lived, but I'm not prepared to risk Azkaban for it. It amazes me that he can be broody around the sunshine that is my sister. Something must really be wrong with him."

Cassie had never been able to stay unhappy for long when Mira was around. No one raised her spirits like her twin. That Harry Potter was immune to her charm was rather pathetic.

"Something is right," Mira agreed with a nod of her head. Further words were forestalled as she stuffed her mouth full of ice cream though, and her eyes crinkled in a grin as she looked at her twin. She'd been in a right foul mood all day, but a few minutes with Cassie and everything seemed a little brighter.

"I think he's prone to feeling sorry for himself, though I haven't the slightest what it is he's moping over. Maybe his girlfriend? Or lack thereof. He spends even more time in the office now then he did before," she mused thoughtfully.

"He's a very strange bloke. Do you suppose life after You Know Who is just a little dull for him?" Cassie pondered. The whole of Harry Potter's adolescence was taken up with avoiding death at the wand of the Dark Lord. She could see that an everyday existence might seem lacking in comparison. Not that anyone wanted to be pursued by a madman, but it was sure to break up the monotony of day to day life. "And really, who'd want to date some sulky arse who spends his life at the office?"

The question wasn't meant as anything more than rhetorical, but Mira paused before she answered, instead enjoying a bit more raspberry ice cream. She'd not thought about Harry like that, really. He was her boss. But ...

Realizing she'd been silent too long, Mira's blue gaze found her sister's and a bright grin flashed across her face. "You know though, he is kinda cute when he's all rumpled. He came into the office once in a thermal and I'm pretty sure he'd forgot to try and tame his hair. That's got to be somewhat redeeming, yeah? Cute points?"

Watching her twin, a slow smirk spread on Cassie's face. "I've never been much for 'cute', myself. Do you give him cute points, Mira Sophia? Rumply thermal Auror cute points?" She assumed Mira was speaking in general and not specifically about her own interest in Potter, but these things had to be investigated.

"I think I would. Rumply and mussed gets automatic bonus points," Mira grinned. She'd not missed her sister's look though, and her features turned just a bit sly as she added, "I'd think you would agree with me since you leave most of yours that way after a bit of time spent together."

"Mussed at the hands of another and rumpled simply because you haven't bothered to locate your comb are two entirely different things," Cassie retorted, trying - and failing - to look properly affronted by her sister's assertion. "But if Mr. Potter's unkempt qualities bring you joy, who am I to throw stones, eh?"

Mira made a face at her sister, the raspberry ice cream she'd been about to eat slowly lowering. "I didn't say that it like that," she said, nose crinkling at her twin.

"You didn't say it any particular way, and I didn't suggest otherwise. You said it was cute, and cute things make you happy. One might wonder if you doth protest too much," Cassie teased, nose crinkling in kind.

"One might wonder if you've been setting me up," Mira said loftily, though her eyes were bright. "What with your crafty words and cunning ways."

Eyes turning doe-y and innocent, Cassie tried to sound affronted. "Would I do that to my favorite sister?" she asked, leaning in to drop a quick kiss to Mira's cheek. "I can't believe you'd suggest such a thing."

"You most definitely could and would," Mira said firmly, sniffing at her sister's attempts at absolution. "However, I think I'll forgive you if you come to Hogsmeade with me on Halloween," she added, blue eyes twinkling when she met her twin's own bright blues.

"Do I get to wear a costume?" the blonde asked, grinning. Halloween in Hogsmeade held some of her favorite school memories. Most of them involved dressing up. One or two involved the removal of a costume.

"Pfft. As if we wouldn't," Mira scoffed, though she couldn't hold back the excitement over this favorite schooldays pastime. Some of her most favorite memories with her sister and housemates were of Halloween in Hogsmeade.

Leaning forward, her lips turned, mischief evident. "I saw these costume that would make Mum and Alexa throw a fit, but they're so cute ..."

SUMMARY: Cassie 'comforts' her twin after a long day at school and the office, and Mira suggests they hit the Hogmeade Fall Festival together for old time's sake.
