I really enjoyed reading your review. Briggs is a favorite author of mine, and I loved hearing you say why you like reading this book so much.

This book was recommended highly to me also, by another LJ-er. It didn't disappoint, it's got enough quirks and deviations from the normal paranormal romances to make it satisfying. The fact that a vampire drives a van painted to look like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo is one of those happy little oddities. It's a solid first book for the series, I agree, but the heavy info-dumping kept me from wanting to run out and grab the next one. I probably will pick it up eventually though.

Oh, I forgot about Stefan! I liked that too, and how even the only BEAUTIFUL vampire was very much fakely human. :)

I see what you mean about info-dumping. I've seen worse, but I've seen better too. With any luck, the info-dumping smooths itself out in the rest of the books, as the readers should have a solid grounding in the world. I'll let you know how it works out when I read them. :)

I've heard the first two books in this series were good but that the third fell into a horrible pitfall too many writers use to "develop" their female characters....

But I'll let you find that out for yourself - I'll let you decide whether you think it is a pitfall or not...

I'm still debating whether I want to read this first book but I would rather try the other Were books I've been able to find.

Good review, though.

Which is why I didn't pick up the third book. I bought book one and two at the same time, but didn't read them until about a year or so later I had purchased them. Book one was good and book two developed nicely, and after hearing the mixed reactions on book three, I'm skeptical on reading it.

I'm still skeptical about even reading book one but I may give it a shot...Although I'm afraid that if I do I'll get attached to the character and only be even more pissed off at the later books...

But I may read book one...My resistance to it is slowly weakening, lol.
