Let Me Love You

My good friend D.R. called me out of nowhere yesterday. I have known this fellow longer than anyone else unrelated to me and we keep up quite a good friendship, although there are often breaks in communication - we just don't bother talking when there is nothing worth talking about. So I hadn't talked to him for some time when he called me - this is probably relevant, somehow.

He calls me up, and tells me that his charming lady friend A. would be visiting soon. This is happy news; she does not live locally, and he had been missing her sorely. I thought I would brighten his day even more: I told him about The Cure's concert being on Tuesday.

This led to quite a conversation: D.R. had almost as much difficulty spending the money as I did, in addition to the concern that A. would be upset because they already had plans for that day. It ended up not being too difficult to simply reschedule these plans, ultimately making for a better week, but for some time there was great concern. After half an hour of my counsel and perhaps another half hour in thought, he calls me again and says he wants the tickets (which I need to buy in advance for him, as he does not have access to the internet currently). Twenty minutes later, he calls me and tells me to buy tickets for Alistair, after ensuring that there would be room for him. Fifteen minutes pass and suddenly Alistair's special lady friend is coming too; and so in the course of less than two hours I went from being alone at the show to having a good many friends with me. Funny how these things work out.
