[The voice speaks in an educated British accent. It is male and strangely resonant, but there is nothing that immediately identifies it as non-human.]

Hello. Ni hao. Bonjour. [odd squeaking and clicking noise] Can you hear me? My name is Temeraire, or as I am known in China, Lung Tien Xiang. I have only recently arrived here and I ( Read more... )

Are you a real dragon or do you just like pictures of them?

I am a dragon. I suppose I should have said that.

Oh! I always hoped I'd meet a really true dragon one day!

Are there no dragons where you come from?

The name's Thomas. I've never met a man named Laurence, but if I do, I'll send him your way.

...you're a dragon, aren't you?

[Thomas has met a dragon, but when he did, he was in a human form...and dressed as a crusader, but that's beside the point lol]

Dragons have kinds?

Yes, there are many breeds. Some dragons are not much bigger than a human, and Maximus is a Regal Copper, so he is larger than I am. But not that much larger. And different breeds have different abilities.

Have you lived here long?

About eight months. As far as I know, there isn't a way out.

I have heard that, but I have also heard that sometimes people do leave, and even return again.

[There's a slightly hesitant pause here, but in the end, curiosity wins out over hesitance.]

Have you managed to find a place to stay, then, Temeraire?

Well, I have been sleeping at the beach, because the weather has been nice enough, but I do wish I had a pavillion to stay in. However, I do not have any way to pay for such a thing to be built, so perhaps I will look for a large cave.

There are some caves down near the Lighthouse, if you've been toward that end of the beach. Most of them are rather small, I suppose, but I'm sure I've seen at least one or two rather large ones, if that helps any.

I think I shall go investigate them. It is possible that what looks like a small cave could be enlarged, or might open up into a larger chamber. It would be good to have somewhere to go in the rain.

Hello, Todd.

Where are you from? I assume you are from somewhere else, since no one seems to actually be from the City originally.

You were at school? In China the dragons and their companions go to school together, but I have learned mostly from Laurence and the books he reads to me. I think it would be very interesting to go to school.
