Of course, my local emergency room once failed to consider the signs of a systemic allergic reaction an emergency...when I presented with them AND said I'd had allergy shots just an hour prior. (Alas, the allergy shot clinic had closed.)

I had some difficulty breathing, but I consoled myself that if it turned into complete inability to breathe I was at least in the right place. And eventually it did get better and they sent me away without any treatment at all.

My allergist was furious. :P But.

Number of times I've taken Drew to the ER so far: uh, none. (Well, okay. Actually, he has gone there, while accompanying me, when I went in because I was vomiting continuously, could keep nothing down, and was showing STRONG signs of dehydration. Since they had to give me two bags of saline as well as something anti-nausea in the IV as well as a dose of morphine...I don't feel too bad about that one. Kiddo was just along for the ride, since Scott had to drive.)

I might take significant ear pain, and/or pink eye, to urgent care depending on when it happened. Unless the ear pain was stabbing, continuous, and uncontrollable, and urgent care was closed, I don't see the call for the ER there. I'd be a little nervous if all those conditions held true, wondering if the drum was going to rupture, though.
