Just an FYI from your friendly, cynical ER nurse.
Fever? Not an emergency (unless under 8 weeks old or immunocompromised)
99.4 if not a "fever". Hell, 100.0 is not a "fever".
A stubbed toe? Not an emergency.
Ear pain? Not an emergency.
If your child vomits once, not only is it not an emergency, it most DEFINITELY does NOT need an ambulance.
Nasal congestion, cough for 24 hours, nausea, back pain for 3 months, pink eye or a hang nail? Not an emergency.
If your primary care physican is not able to see you at that exact mmoment and given you an appointment for the next day, whatever yoru complaint is does not automatically turn in to an emergency.
And, lastly, if you can safely sit in the emergency department waiting room for 3-7 hours before being seen, it probably is NOT an emergency room and therefor does NOT need to be at the ER. The ER is for EMERGENCIES. Hence the name.
