yeah to be honest, I was mainly considering the home birth because the hospital choices didn't sound so great. The health care system here is fine but local hospitals can vary widely, and the options I have in Leicester are both extremely busy hospitals. The (admittedly few) people I know here with children who gave birth in Leicester weren't impressed at all with the amount of care they had. This is backed up in the news with stories on there being 10 women assigned to every midwife in the hospital, or so. By comparison, the lady I know who had the home births had two midwives, in her home, both times. Plus the same pain relief options she had at the hospital (gas is popular here) but no epidural of course.

The birthing centre sounds like a good middle ground. They have a lower midwife-to-patient ratio, as well as birthing pools, etc. With the sort of pain that's been described to me, I get the feeling I'll appreciate being able to move around on my own when I can. But what the hell do I know, really? I've never given birth before.

That's really great about Mr Pfieffer! He's such a nice man. How many kids does Lucy have? 2? This will be her third? cool haha.
