Today was my first midwife appointment. It was a bit long, about an hour, and we spent most of the time discussing my health, past health problems, and family history along those lines. Thomas came with me, which was good.
The lady we met with was very nice and helpful. Of course, she won't be 'my' midwife (that person, in turn, will be very unlikely to be the midwife there for delivery, so I do sort of wonder why I get assigned one at all.) We talked about birth options, and she asked which hospital I wanted to go to, as we have a choice of five in our region. I told her I honestly hadn't heard anything great about any of the local hospitals, and that one friend's wife had actually had home births for her 2nd and 3rd child because of the way she was treated at one place. I said that her story had almost sold me on the idea of a home birth, except that it would be my first child, and I wasn't entirely comfortable with that.
She then told me about a birthing centre in a nearby town which would possibly be a reasonable middle ground. We're considering that now, contingent upon a healthy pregnancy, etc.
She took 5-6 vials of blood for various tests.
My blood pressure is awesome/ more awesome. However, I'm a moo (indeed, I've manage to gain a few pounds more than I should ALREADY due to this disgusting nausea only going away when I eat something. I've moved on to healthier foods but for a few weeks my choices were just "whatever makes this feeling go away"), so I've got to get some testing in case of gestational diabetes.
Next appointment will be a scan. She has sent my paperwork off to the hospital, and they will send me a letter saying when the scan will be. It won't be for another 2-3 weeks at least, though. The next midwife appointment is in 4 weeks.
That is all. :)
