Cait and horse stuff.

HI!  First of all, I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes.  I really appreciated them.  I should have appreciated them that day or the next, but real life happened.

What happened? you ask.

Horses.

Let me explain.  Now, I don't know a whole lot about the internal workings of a horse.  I have been told, though, that the females can have a false pregnancy caused by a tumor in the uterus that causes the mare to exhibit all the normal symptoms of a pregnancy (winking, dribbling milk, bloating, etc) except for the foal.  Our mare Dixie has done this in the past.  Late last month, she started doing the same things and we thought she was having a false pregnancy.  Because it had been going on for almost a month, on March 16th we actually called the vet to come out and give her a hormone shot that would dry up the milk from the false pregnancy.  Well, the vet said she couldnt come out before the end of the week, but it should be fine.

Does anyone see where this is going yet?

Bright and early on the morning of the 18th, sometime between when I went up to give the horses water (6:30 AM ish)and when my father went up to give them grain (10 AM ish),  Dixie gave birth to a cute little colt.

The false pregnancy wasn't.  She completely never showed at all until a month ago.  Even when she showed no fetus could be felt.  And we still aren't completely sure exactly when she was bred - the mares and the stallions are completely seperated.

Surprise!!!
