Part One Part Two Part Four Part Five Part Six Part Seven Part Eight Part Nine

“Hyuk? Hyuk, you’re not paying attention to me. Shall I just go?” Junsu’s voice shouts through the phone. He must be screaming.

He lifts the phone to his ear quickly and shoots out, “No!” Should he tell Junsu? He’s not sure he should. He doesn’t know if Junsu will reject him. He doesn’t know how Junsu feels about it all-with Hyukjae being seen as his girlfriend and whatnot. He doesn’t know that Hyukjae sort of desperately wants to be his girlfriend. He’s not gay, he’s not, but it’s Junsu, and it just makes sense that he would feel this way when it comes to Junsu. And then it slips out; “I need to tell you something.” He smiles gratefully at Kyuhyun, who is on his way out.

“Yeah?” Junsu asks, but Hyukjae doesn’t really want to tell him. Or not over the phone at any rate.

“When are you back?” he asks, stalling for time.

“In two days!” Junsu almost squeals.

“Wow, that’s soon,” Hyukjae mumbles.

“Is that your girlfriend again?” squeals the same female voice as last week. “Konbanwa, Kanojo!”

“It’s-” Junsu begins again. “It’s Eunhyukkie-kun!” Hyukjae resists the urge to giggle at the nickname and blushes instead, grateful that there’s nobody around to see.

“Don’t be silly, we know you’ve been excited you’re getting to ring your girlfriend-you can’t fool me! You’ve been strangely bubbly for days!” the girl says, somewhat conspiratorially, but she’s talking almost into the phone and Hyukjae can hear her as clearly as he could if she were standing there with him. He can’t stop the gummy smile on his face from expanding when he realises the implications of her message-Junsu really misses him. “You do realise Management doesn’t want you to have a girlfriend though, right? It’s against the rules.”

“It’s Eunhyuk!” Junsu sort-of wails. “Ayako-san, I told you-”

Ayako appears to have stolen the phone from Junsu, because her next words are straight into the phone. “Kanojo, don’t listen to him! We all know he loves you very dearly. It’s extremely obvious. He doesn’t stop thinking about you.”

“Ayssi! Don’t say things like that!” Junsu shouts. There’s a brief wrestling match before he gets the phone back from Ayako. “Hyuk, Hyuk, don’t listen to her, she’s mad.”

“So who’s this person you never stop thinking about?” Hyukjae asks innocently, because he’s genuinely confused-Ayako sounded certain that Junsu was thinking about someone and loved someone, and he wants to know. He’s Junsu’s best friend. Junsu should tell him.

“It’s, it’s nothing, no-one, Hyuk,” Junsu says in awkward, broken Korean. He mumbles something quickly in Japanese-too quick for Hyukjae.

There’s a gasp from Ayako. “Oyamaa!” she says. “I get it! Eunhyuk! The boys were talking about-”

“Don’t finish that!” Junsu tells her. “Don’t you dare finish that, Noona!” Hyukjae knows his friend is panicking because of the use of noona with a Japanese girl.

“Junsu-kun,” Ayako begins, and then she reels something off in Japanese that Hyukjae can’t understand.

Junsu only replies with one word, and it’s after a substantial pause. “Hai,” he says. Hyukjae knows this means “yes”.

Ayako laughs, and then says, “Haenguneul piluhyo,” and Hyukjae is confused, because why is she wishing Junsu good luck? “Ahnikiseyo, Kanojo!” she adds quickly with a laugh. There’s a brief scuffle and then Junsu’s back on the phone.

“She’s gone now,” Junsu murmurs. “Sorry about that, Hyuk. Ayako-san thinks she knows everything but she really doesn’t.”

If he were Donghae, Hyukjae knows that right now he’d be saying, half-jokily, does this mean you don’t love me? but he’s not Donghae, and he loves Junsu too much to say something stupid like that when there’s a chance Junsu will say no. “It’s okay,” he says instead, “it was amusing. You sure know how to pick your friends.”

Junsu sighs in relief. “I knew you wouldn’t take it seriously,” he tells Hyukjae. He doesn’t reply to Hyukjae’s retort, which is kind of uncharacteristic of him, but Hyukjae supposes Junsu has other things to think about.

“Why did she wish you good luck?”

“I have a show,” Junsu says. “We’ll be back in Korea at five in the morning. You’ll come and see us later, right?” He sounds...sad. Worried. As if Hyukjae will say no. “You will?”

“Of course I will,” Hyukjae says, and although he knows it’s the perfect time to make a joke about Junsu missing him, he doesn’t.

“I’ve got to go,” Junsu murmurs. “I’m sorry we didn’t get to talk properly.”

“It’s okay,” Hyukjae replies, because he’s happy he got to hear Junsu’s voice. He’s happy that DBSK will be back in two days.

“Chalgayo,” Junsu says, and Hyukjae barely gets time to reply (annyeong!) before the line goes dead.

Hyukjae puts his phone down and it’s only then that he realises he never got to tell Junsu.

Junsu must have realised too, because a second later he gets a text saying tell me what you wanted when I’m back ^_^.

Hyukjae rolls his eyes but he’s laughing anyway to quell the nerves creeping up his throat.
