Part One Part Three Part Four Part Five Part Six Part Seven Part Eight Part Nine A week later and it’s the same scene again.
“I’ll head to KTR after this,” he tells Leeteuk, because it’s a Sukira night and they have to get there within several hours. “I’ll stay back a little. I can get to KTR on my own. There are drivers.”
Leeteuk nods his head without complaining. Hyukjae knows Leeteuk is tired enough that he’s not worried about the younger. He worries about his babies and he worries about their schedules but sometimes he forgets to see what’s in front of his own eyes. Kangin’s been looking out for him recently and Hyukjae is really glad that somebody makes sure Leeteuk eats and doesn’t collapse. He only wishes that Leeteuk would sleep better. He keeps mentioning it to Donghae, who shares a room with Leeteuk, but Donghae swears that Leeteuk sleeps fine, which is rubbish, but Donghae’s always been a bit spaced out. He much prefers talking about his aliens and video games to talking about worries about the other members. He doesn’t like thinking that they’re not all okay.
Yesterday Junsu said he would ring Hyukjae tonight before Sukira, so Hyukjae puts his phone against the mirrors along the wall and dances and dances and dances again. Anything to get it out of his mind.
About an hour later he’s still dancing when he hears, “Eunhyukkie-hyung,” and he turns to see Kyuhyun in the doorway; tall and lanky and definitely looking worried.
Hyukjae knows his eyes are watering so he blinks a few times to dispel the tears and then says, “Ah, Kyuhyunnie-yah, I thought you left with the others?”
Kyuhyun murmurs something about a lost item and looks around for it, but Hyukjae knows he didn’t leave anything behind. He’s about to say so when Kyuhyun asks, “What are you still doing here, Hyung? I thought you were going straight to the radio station?”
Hyukjae sighs. “Junsu said he was going to ring me,” he explains. “We never get a chance to speak, so I thought I’d wait for him.”
Kyuhyun frowns for a moment, and he appears to be thinking. Then he says, “Hyung, can you teach me to dance something? Something not for our routines?”
Hyukjae nods, because this will give him something else to think about. He begins dancing slowly, showing Kyuhyun how to move and positioning him where he wants him. He makes sure he doesn’t hurt Kyuhyun-he doesn’t know how fragile the younger still is after the accident. The dance gets faster and faster until Hyukjae gets so dizzy that he falls onto the floor.
Kyuhyun flops on top of him, so Hyukjae rolls so that Kyuhyun’s next to him; not squashing him (they’re both as thin as each other, which is too thin, but Kyuhyun’s much taller and the positioning is awkward). Their arms are tight around each other, their legs entwined. Hyukjae breathes deeply to get his breath back.
A few moments later the phone rings, and Hyukjae scrambles to his feet to answer it.
“Hey, Idiot, were you so bored you were waiting for my call? You picked up on, what, the second ring?” Junsu laughs. “Are your bandmates that boring?”
Hyukjae can’t help but smile. “Why are you ringing me?” he laughs. “You’re an idiot too, I thought it was someone else.”
“Hyung, you should just tell him,” Kyuhyun says, and he looks like he just had a flash of inspiration. Hyukjae almost looks to see if the light-bulb is there.
Hyukjae is confused. What on earth does he mean now? He cocks his head to the side and looks inquisitive.
“You should tell him how you feel,” Kyuhyun adds, and nods towards the phone, which Hyukjae has removed from his ear despite the fact that Junsu is still talking to him.
He opens and shuts his mouth. What? Is he implying-?
“It’s quite obvious, now I think about it,” Kyuhyun murmurs. “Just do it. We’re worried about you, and the sooner you two stop dancing around, the better.” It’s a bit rude but he understands that Kyuhyun doesn’t mean it offensively.
Hyukjae thinks. He thinks about how he’s thought of nothing but Junsu for weeks. He thinks of how the dancing is because of Junsu, because he’s thinking about him all the time. He thinks of how he and Junsu have always had this strange quirky friendship which is somewhat reminiscent of a Primary School boy’s attraction to the girl he likes-ever since they were about the same age; Primary School. They tease and insult each other and make each other’s lives a misery whenever they can. They have the radio shows, where Junsu rings in and Hyukjae makes a fuss (or Junsu asks someone to replace Hyukjae as host). Or when Junsu was on Jeolchin Note and had to ring his best friend and he picked Hyukjae (after they’d hung up, Hyukjae couldn’t stop giggling about the Hyungnim-Dongsaeng relationship thing, though it had felt great to say that they were closest best friends). Or when DBSK were on Sukira after the award for Mirotic and Junsu couldn’t stop holding his hand. He thinks of how Junsu talks to him so much around other people (because he’s not ashamed of him), and talks about him so often, that his bandmates and Noonims and Hyungnims think that Hyukjae’s his girlfriend. He thinks of how if Junsu were here, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from hugging him and keeping him there and-
Oh.
