Part One Part Two Part Three Part Five Part Six Part Seven Part Eight Part Nine Part Ten Part Eleven

It’s a couple of weeks later and Kyuhyun thinks he’s ready now. He wasn’t before, not even when he was thinking about who it should be, but he thinks he is now.

“Henli-yah, have you seen Hankyung-hyung?” he asks, seeing the boy, with Ryeowook, in the sitting room with his laptop on his lap, doubtlessly watching more videos of SJM. Maybe it helps with his Mandarin, or maybe he just likes seeing himself on camera-Kyuhyun isn’t sure, but he knows Henry is always watching them, and that’s kind of creepy.

“I think Gege was with Shi Yuan-ge,” Henry murmurs, saying the Mandarin equivalent of Siwon’s name, although he knows the older man is called Siwon. Zhou Mi, despite his exceptional Korean, has an excuse to refer to them by their Chinese names (and he does so, even when they’re in Korea, possibly because he’s annoyed with Heechul always calling him Seasoning, though it doesn’t really seem fair that he’d take it out on them, and he doesn’t really seem like the type of person who’d do that anyway, because he’s Zhou Mi and he’s nice). Henry doesn’t. Henry isn’t Mandarin, after all. “They were off that way,” Henry adds dismissively, and waves behind him-back the way Kyuhyun came; towards the bedrooms. The internet chooses to cut out at this moment and Henry lets out a pitiful wail before shutting his laptop and mumbling, “I’m going to Dong Hai-ge’s room...you coming, Li Xu-ge?” he adds, turning to Ryeowook. They’re Donghae and Ryeowook’s Chinese names. Kyuhyun’s is Kui Xian and Hankyung’s is Han Geng and Henry’s is Liu Xian Hua (Xian Hua for short?) and Zhou Mi’s is obvious.

Kyuhyun watches the younger boy go with Ryeowook and shakes his head, laughing, and then heads back towards the bedrooms. He opens Hankyung’s bedroom door, even though he’s already tried that, and Hankyung isn’t there. He sighs, and tries the next door, which is the bathroom one.

He shuts the door almost immediately, because he’s not really sure what he just saw, only that involved Siwon and Hankyung and the bathroom counter and he thinks he is scarred for life, why didn’t they lock the door?

On the bright side, he knows he isn’t going to try with Hankyung. Hankyung-umma, he is reminded, and he thinks it probably wasn’t a good idea anyway.

He goes to his bedroom and sees Zhou Mi coming out of it, a book in hand, and suddenly he has a thought.

“Mimi-ge,” he says, because Zhou Mi actually quite likes being called that, “what are you reading?”

It’s an open, polite question, but Kyuhyun has his reasons for asking it. He knows Zhou Mi well enough that he knows it’ll keep him there and talking for ages.

Zhou Mi smiles and heads back into Kyuhyun’s room, Kyuhyun following. They sit on Kyuhyun’s bed, Kyuhyun at the head and Zhou Mi at the foot, their backs against the bed-frames. The older man starts animatedly talking about this book which is-just Kyuhyun’s luck-a romance novel. A soppy, girly, romance novel.

Zhou Mi is making this really easy.

“Have you ever wanted to have a life like that?” Kyuhyun asks when Zhou Mi finishes describing the basic plot of the book, complete with dragon-slaying knight and lost and forlorn princess.

Zhou Mi shrugs. “It would be nice if life were a fairytale, Kui Xian, but it isn’t.”

Kyuhyun decides to offer a piece of himself in aid of his cause. “I always did,” he says. “I always thought it would be easier if life played out like a novel.”

“Would you be the damsel in distress?” Zhou Mi asks sweetly and Kyuhyun chokes on nothing, because that was not what he was expecting. Zhou Mi laughs, and for a frightening second Kyuhyun can see Sungmin and Donghae in him, and then the older man says the dreaded words; “Donghae’s been talking about you, you know.”

“Has he really?” Kyuhyun sighs, because he should have expected it-Donghae is incapable of keeping secrets from anyone, especially not his bandmates (or Yunho, but he prays that Donghae has some common sense and hasn’t told him). He hopes Donghae hasn’t told all of Super Junior, because he doesn’t really want the Game to be over so soon, before he even finishes it.

“I’m pretty sure I can be of help to you,” Zhou Mi offers cheerfully, his earlier innocence seemingly gone, and Kyuhyun wonders why all his bandmates are so damn happy and casual when it comes to sexual relationships, and wonders why they all want to help him, because surely that’s not normal behaviour amongst straight guys?

“I don’t know why you think that,” Kyuhyun says, a little huffily, because he doesn’t like being seen through.

Zhou Mi laughs. “You should take those off,” he says, indicating Kyuhyun’s trousers, rather than replying.

Kyuhyun opens and shuts his mouth like a fish, and then decides it’s probably best to obey him if he’s going to get the Game finished this side of Christmas. He stands up and obediently removes his trousers, standing there in just his t-shirt and boxers.

“And those,” Zhou Mi says, nodding again, and Kyuhyun feels embarrassed, like he’s making a spectacle of himself, but Zhou Mi isn’t mean and he’s not going to tell anyone (he thinks), so it’s best to just do as he says, so he takes off his boxers as well and tries his hardest to tug the t-shirt down to cover whatever he can. He feels like he’s on display, which he supposes he is, really.

At some point Zhou Mi’s lost some of his clothes, too, and he produces a bottle from who knows where, and then Kyuhyun’s sitting with his back against the headboard and there’s cold, and pain, but it doesn’t hurt really badly for long-soon it’s just a mild throbbing-, and then Kyuhyun’s whispering more, more without being fully aware of it, and Zhou Mi obliges and there is good mixed in with the pain and this must be why people are helping.
