So, the job search has not gone as super stellar as I had planned. Meaning, there was not a line of universities waiting at our doorstep when we moved in. I sent out letters to the people my friend suggested, and am applied to an actual job advertised (but have not heard anything, yet), and I plan to send out letters of inquiry and C.V to HR people at the different universities and colleges.
My goal today is to get a mobile phone; preferably one that has some sort of translation app capability, and one that is not expensive. This way, I will have a dedicated number at which the job offers can come rolling in.
Once the paperwork is finalized and I have my Dutch employment number, I am thinking it would be fun/different/adventurous to register with some of the expat geared employment agencies, and maybe even a temp. agency. I worked for a temp agency after the B.A. degree, and it was not ideal but it got me out of the house. And one of the reasons I want a job is to see people, and maybe make some friends. (I know, I AM AN AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL!)
I still have not met up with my friend Joyce. She told me to 'drop buy' just before New Year's because she was at home grading, but I could not remember her house number. I just did not want to wander up and down the street trying different apartment buildings until I hit upon the correct one! And meeting up for coffee has not worked out because something always comes up. ONce I have a phone #, maybe that will make things easier.
This coming weekend, we are going to Utrecht -- Jake has a function on Saturday so we thought we would spend a few days seeing a different part of the Netherlands. On monday, I have an intake meeting for language classes. I think it is just to see if I know any Dutch yet, and if I am teachable. I would like to take the 12 week course covering their levels one and two -- they offer one section in the morning, and then sections in the evenings. My delimma, should I do mornings (which would interfere with job stuff) or evenings? There is not LOADS of stuff going on in the evenings anyway. . . so that might be the better option. Plus, the evening classes might have more professionals. (contacts, contacts, contacts!)
I know -- my life is so hard!
