There was this game that was put out back in 2002 called Earth and Beyond. It was a MMO in the space genre. It was an incredibly fun game, not too complicated, good community. It was fun. It was produced by a little company called Westwood, and it enjoyed moderate success(at the time) of about 200,000 subscribers.
In swoops EA games. Buys out Westwood, stops development of Earth and Beyond. Earth and Beyond withers and dies, EA shuts down the servers for good. There are still 20 or 30 thousand loyal hardcore fans of the game playing when the servers are shut down. Fast forward a few years, and at of those hard core fans has managed to reverse engineer the E&B game and create an emulator. Fast forward a few more years and ta-da. The E&B emulator team is going to host a stress test of their emulator on December 22nd. I was a fan off the game when it was out(although not a hardcore fan) and i'm muchly looking forward to playing it again. Here is to hoping that EA doesn't spoil the party.
