Blue Virus

Catch the fever!

I suppose it was Sunday when I started feeling a little bit less than great. Katie and I went to Shibuya to hang out with Wayne and his girlfriend. We had sushi at the kaiten sushi place we frequent there, shopped at Mandarake, UniQlo and Tsutaya a bit, and had some Beard Papa cream puffs. It's really the stuff of Shibuya for me.

It was all a decent amount of fun, but I was constantly thirsty for reasons I wasn't sure of. I mean, I often like to have a beverage with me, and it was pretty warm that day.

After that, we met up with Sayoko (one of Katie's students) and Eugene in Saitama Shintoshin to watch Batman Begins. We had dinner first at an italian place, where I realized I was feeling pretty sick.

When we got back, I realized I had what was possibly a cold, so I drank a bunch of water and went to sleep.

I've been sick since then, but I'll spare the details here. Suffice to say that blue virus has been attacking me, and it's only my sweet Katie bringing me Pocari Sweat that has been saving me from a horrible existence in the bathroom.

Since I've been spending so much time there, I've been finding a lot more time to read that I supposed I would. I'm not opposed to that fundamentally, but I'm running out of books way too fast. Among the books:

Ishmael: Jon Nowlin recommended this book highly to me, it's one he'd read assigned at CAHS. It was a pretty good read, but I finished it on the airplane ride here. Damn. It's a little heavy on the philisophical side, not quite in a pleasant way. A bit too preachy. Still interesting.

Pet Semetary: I've never actually taken the time to read anything by Stephen King other than a few short stories, and I don't really remember anything about them. I figured I could snag a few of his books at Half-Price Books before I go though. I started with this one, and just finished it yesterday. His writing style is really hynotic. It doesn't try to make you personally relate to the characters, but I never felt like he was pushing any of them in an unnatural way. Withing the context anyway.
I liked this one a lot too, but the doubts replaying in my mind paralelled to the ones of the main character in the book, coupled with reading it in the cramped bathroom in the Hasuda apartment made it a little intense for me. No nightmares, though.

The Stand: I've only just started this one, and I'm considering putting it down. Until I recover. Reading this while sick for days on end is a bad idea. Catch the fever, boy!

So we did see Batman Begins, and I loved it. It might have been a little darker than it needed to be, and tthe Batmobile sequences seemed kinda stupid to me... but otherwise it was nice. Batman's origin has been retold so many goddamn times, I don't give a rat's ass about story canon.

Nothing to report with Katie yet, but we're having a lot of fun together.

That should cover everything. Not a lot of people on my list are updating, you should! Katie, especially you!
