Meta on Dr. Horrible as relating to the WGA strike, I swear I'll shut up about it soon! Now contains Spoilers for Part 3
Okay, maybe I'm thick, but I kind of just got this.
See, this was written during the Writer's Strike, right?
So, "Captain Hammer, Corporate Tool" = the AMPTP.
"Dr. Horrible" = Writer's (and now Actor's, I guess) Guilds.
And the object of their struggle? Is Penny. As in money. More specifically as in the one or two pennies per sale on DVD's and the however much of a fraction of a penny per view for online content.
So, we have Captain Hammer, a dense, mean-spirited, giant dick bully, who has Penny, and is keeping Penny away from Dr. Horrible for no reason other than because Dr. Horrible wants her, and Captain Hammer wants to make Dr. Horrible miserable.
So, by that token, I'm saying there is no way in hell Penny is going to end up on Captain Hammer's side in all this.
What do you think? Am I just really late to pick up the clue phone on that? Or am I reading stuff in that isn't there?
ETA: Part 3 Addendum. Hm. Well, could extend that metaphor into this equating to the first phase of the strike, and the AMPTP pulling the assorted stunts they did to destroy the offer on the table and make the writer's guild band together in a league to strike, while the press showed primarily the AMPTP as the victim and such, but right know I just want to string Joss Whedon up by his ears until the sequal comes out, because that was so very NOT THE END, dammit!
ETA: As a very late addition, if the whole 'Hammer=AMPTP' and 'Horrible=writers /actors guilds' then:
Johnny Snow=Canadian film industry. Just sayin'
