Good stuff. And while I agree that I was upset with Sam to a degree I thought Jared knocked this one out of the park. His eyes turning wet but not crying as Dean wailed into him verbally. Very effective.
"Those aren't mistakes, Sam, those are choices!" One: true, and valid.Another poster pointed out in her livejournal that mistakes are always choices, just bad ones. Accidents aren't choices and Sam never defended himself by saying his bad actions were accidents, not even when letting Lucifer out was an accident

Just a quick post to say that when the boys first rolled into town and started the investigation, Sam wore blue and Dean was in grey. Half way through the episode they switche color, and from then on Sam was grey and Dean was wearing the blue.
Yes, exactly. It's less that it's identifying either of them with a specific side in that conflict, and more indicating visually that they are at odds.
Nice catch on the blue and gray clothing. Oddly, now that I have recognized that, I am going to have to seriously consider just dropping the show. The relentless drive to have Sam be bad and to make it quite clear that whatever happens Dean will right, Sam will wrong (the Confederates wore gray, they lost) is starting to overwhelm me.
I think they switched back and forth on the colour scheme a few times, just one was blue and one was grey. *scrolling through caps* Yeah, Dean's grey for most of the first half of the episode. I don't think they are trying to identify Sam as the Confederates, that's just the colour he had for the back half of the episode.
If Benny starts killing people then as a hunter and Sam is able to stop him, that's what he is supposed to do.
True, and I would have felt much better about that threat if Sam had made that point in the conversation with Dean.
Basically I love Sam and I'm sick about how he is being written this year.I'll be the first to admit that I've always had Dean-leanings, but Sam's been

I love this post! In particular, the parallels drawn between Dean, Sam, the Union and the Confederate. And now that I’m thinking about it, it’s a perfect analogy in many ways. Dean is a vessel for Michael, who’s from “up North.” And Sam’s a vessel for Lucifer, who hails from “(way) down South.”
But Sam in Confederate gray? Unless Show plans on rewriting history, this isn’t going to end well for him, is it?
Or perhaps the South will rise again? XD
Brilliant post, bb! It was borgmama1of5 who sent me here, but I’ll have to start hanging around these here parts more often.
p.s. I, too, want to believe that there’s something supernatural going on with Sam, because the behavior we’ve been seeing is just not our Sam. I like the idea of Amelia being some kind of djinn, I like that a LOT. Something’s messing with Sam’s noggin, that’s for sure. : )
Sam and Dean switched back and forth between blue and grey in the episode, so I don't think they intend to link Sam to the Confederates specifically, so no re-writing of history there.
Glad you found some entertainment in the blithering!

Really? I'm surprised!
Yes, the head-smacking impulse is strong in this one.
Why am I sure it's going to get worse before it gets better??? Sigh.
Because you know what show you're watching! XD
I better get one hell of a reconciliation scene!
I certainly hope so too!

All I ended up with was 'Oh Boys.'
