Oh mna, you reckon the barbie was really a PWT shoutout? Awesome!

Loved this episode, little Sam reduced me to tears and moans of SAMMICH almost constantly. And the CHRISTMAS ENDING! HOMG. *runs to rewatch*

I'd be willing to bet the Barbie was a shout out. *nods*

I feel cheated that I didn't have that reaction to the episode due to being distracted. *kicks brain* I'm going to have to rewatch it. Not a real chore, that. :-)

I figure Sam at 9 was a remarkably stupid and uncurious (is that a word?) kid. He's NINE and he's asking if Santa is real? And he's never gone looking for John's journal before? A book he's undoubtedly seen his father writing in (because hello, they live in A MOTEL ROOM), and gotten a bunch of evasive remarks about if he asked what it was? Sam would have hunted that baby down years ago. Then he cries himself to sleep after Dean's single remark of "Yeah, monsters are real." This kid got into Stanford? Okay, he trusts his big bro, but he doesn't go "WTF? You're kidding me."

They should've let Sera write the flashbacks. Seriously.

But I loved the current-day stuff! Rose Abbott is a people-munching Pagan god!!! And...BOYS! The "Awwwww"s are echoing around the planet now.

More stuff over at my LJ.

Giant. Freaking. Word.

The happy torturing evil couple were awesome. And I really need to re-watch it once I get my head on straight so I can get the "Awww" part.

Don't worry about if they don't fit in canon! That's what AU is for.

Yeah, but I try wherever possible to fit the things I write (that aren't obviously AU's lke the were-kitten thing) into feasible canon, and find that if something goes AU when I didn't intend it to, I can't get into writing it as easily, or sometimes at all. I've got over 20,000 words in unfinished, unposted stuff I can't get into writing anymore because it's gone AU and the bunny just won't hop.

I'm gonna need some processing time on the backstory elements presented last night is all.

To quote tigriswolf... "Don't you know canon is just guidelines?" ;)

Take a look at some of the stuff she's written. Perfectly canonical, the words used merely seen in a different light, the secondary, tertiary meanings considered over the first one the dictionary offers.

And Thank You for this. It was a delight to read through.

I know, I'm just a freak sometimes. :-)

And thanks!

Title card rocked. Dude, I laughed my ass off at the title cards!

they called him Uncle Bobby YES! I had carefully kept this out of my fics only because I wasn't sure whether John was the type who would fabricate a "relationship" when there wasn't one... Pastor Jim was always "Pastor Jim" and I wasn't sure whether Bobby would have been Bobby or "Mr. Singer" - though I would have bet Bobby would have given them permission very early to call him "Bobby" because "Mr. Singer" just doesn't feel right! But UNCLE Bobby is made of win.

And looks like wee!Dean's having a moment of adolescent pique. I liked the adolescent pique for a few reasons: 1. more "Mean to Sam" moments as opposed to perfect, silent-suffering Dean who moved the earth to make everything perfect for Sam; 2. Dean's freakout is, I think, linked to his own disappointment and anticipation that John's NOT going to make it home, as well as; 3. Sam's probing and asking all the wrong questions to which Dean had no adequate answers, so he's stressing ( ... )

One thing that bugs me is why the hell John didn't have the Journal with him??? He's off hunting, he should have it with him. Did Sam steal it before John left and replace it with, I dunno, some grade three textbook John's gonna pull out when he needs an emergency exorcism or something?

Like I said above, gonna need time to process the new backstory.

Little Sam might not have been a dead on physical match, but he sure acted like Sam. And was showing early signs of becoming a beanpole. I completely agree. Looks? Nothing like Jared. That could have been helped with a simple dye wash - at least the hair would have been in the right color family. But mannerism? Dead on. You could see that this was a kid who would grow up to be Sam.

What the hell with the 'pagan gods' Kripke? Oh, WORD. ARGH. Hello, how did we get from "there's no satan in the craft" in the pilot to Dean doesn't know anything about the pagan origins of Christmas? (To say nothing of not knowing who Dick Van Dyke is...QUOI?) I had a big problem with the writing there.

Okay. I was a leeeetle bit concerned Sam was going to suddenly rediscover some psychic-kid powers in a moment of crisis there. Not concerned really, more like actively rooting for it out loud ( ... )

I had a big problem with the writing there.

I think it was a new writer? Although why a new writer on something with so much backstory?

So my stuff is freaking always showing up before I've made it public.

I know, me too. This isn't even any kind of writing though. I'll probably do it anyway, unless someone else beats me to it. :-P

I really need to re-watch this episode with a fresh brain and a better attitude. :-/

I know what you mean, and I've got the download and can't wait to watch it again (over the weekend, not sure when. Hm).

I think sometimes I get too pre-asquee and then my expectations get too high, even though (for this episode) there were things I knew about of which I was also already skeptical.

It'll take a little adjusting to wrap our brains around it, that's all.

It's more my personal crap that I'm fighting, but yeah. It's all adjustable.
