I have decided to rank the James Bond movies. But rather than just saying this movie is better than that one I have decided to do this on a hundred point scale. So I have devised these criteria and point ranges.
1)Plot 1-20 (Composite of intrigue, flow, twists, and ending up to five points a piece)
2)Main villain 1-20 (Composite of scale of evil plan and sheer badassness up to 10 points a piece)
3)Females 1-20 (Composite of quantity, sexiness, easibility to get into the sack, and vitality to plot up to 5 points a piece)
4)Hence men 1-10
5)Gadgets 1-10
6)Location 1-5
7)Theme song 1-5
8)James Bond overall bad ass factor 1-10
Plus there can be bonus points for cameos and deductions when plausible, but are not automatic
So without further adieu...... here are the first reviews and scores. (And I have recently watched all of these so they are fresh in my mind)
Plot: After Bond thinks he's killed his main villain Blofeld very early in the movie, he has to discover who is buying and selling stolen diamonds and for what purpose. He assumes the role of a diamond fence (whom he kills awesomely) and has to navigate through the treachery of Las Vegas and discovers that the evil Ernst Blofeld is stockpiling the precious gems to use in a deadly laser satellite capable of destroying massive targets on land, sea and air. Blofeld has been incognito after kidnapping a Las Vegas billionaire's empire and using it for his own front while assuming his identity through a voice replicator. In the end, Bond wades into Blofeld's secret oil rig in Baja and blows that shit up along, traps Blofeld in his escape pod, and makes it through one last assassin attempt while on a cruise.
score is 4-5-4-5 = 18/20
Main Villain: Blofeld is extremely clever and full of clever schemes. In this movie he has a double and assumes the role of a billionaire while convincing a good scientist to aid his evil plan. The plan is to hold the world hostage and if he is not paid he will melt the cities one by one. In the end he doesn't take a lot of initiative to killing Bond himself and actually treats him rather humanely at times. Also smokes a long cigarette and has a very loyal cat.
score is 8-7 = 15/20
Females: Bond meets a fellow fencing agent named Tiffany Case and slowly gets her into his aid and in the bed. Along the way an old lady agent is snuffed by the henchmen, two protective agents keep tabs on the kidnapped billionaire, and Case almost thwarts Bonds cleverness with her own stupidity.
score is 5-5-4-4 = 18/20
Henchmen: There are alot here. Besides the two ladies Bond has to almost drown in order to get to Whyte, there are two main assassins named Mr.Wint and Mr.Kidd. They are clever and ruthless in their ways, they look and talk very cooly, and they stay in the thick of the movie until the very end. They also die very interestingly and they of course have a defining trait. Plus I am pretty sure that they are gay. That is not a deduction or positive. Just a statement.
score 10/10
Gadgets: There is the voice changer which is cool when used. Bond gets out of trouble using a fake fingerprint, a moon rover, a metal mouse trap in his pocket, a rappelling cummerbund to scale the hotel, and Q uses a slot machine ring to win lots of coinage towards the end.
score is 8/10
Locations: few seconds in Japan, London, California, and South Africa. Extended time in the Netherlands, Las Vegas, and Baja Mexico.
score is 5/5 for the Vegas glitz and glamor
Theme song: One of the best ever. So good even Kanye sampled it.
score is 5/5
Overall Bond: Bond is uber cool with the one-liners, gets out of every trouble situation with finesse or flare, gets the lady, kills two Blofeld's while trapping the third, and if I am not mistaken, this was Connery's last effort at Bond and he did it to the fullest. Also is in a very kickass chase scene.
score is 10/10 perfection.
Total score combined is 89/100 For a very respectable B+.
Next to come tomorrow will be Thunderball, Goldfinger, and The Man with the Golden Gun.
And I will make the composite list of ranks as I go.
