There was a dream that was Rome...

Sometimes, the GA fandom feels like it's a playground filled with squabbling elementary children.

See, the jungle gym is Mer/Der territory. It's in the heart of the playground so they like to think the whole world revolves around them. They sit up top and think, "Look at our kingdom! Isn't it beautiful?" Often, they forget to look down and remember ( Read more... )

Wow! In the peaceful backwater known as my flist, there are all kinds of ships (including Mer/Der; including people who would rather eat sand for real than read M/L fic LOL!) and we all get along fine!

You spun a great analogy here, but I have to ask - have you been reading TWoP?! ;)

No, but I was definitely thinking about it. And all the other forum (and forum-like) places where people just bitch on end about ships. This started out life as a three sentence entry on the claustrophobia of the GA fandom, but then, er...rant happened, lol.

I agree that it's very tedious and, because of that, it's very rare that I check these forums. (TWoP's vitriol really got to me, actually, around the time Lexie stroked Mark's hair. Whoa - can you say over- (and inappropriate) reaction?!) I haven't even looked at the symbolism threads in ages.

Are other fandoms different, then? I have no experience.

Can I admit to something? Promise me you won't strike me off your flist? You see, with that hair stroking scene, I sorta, maybe, kinda most definitely cringed. I know a lot of people in the M/L community adore it, bbbuuuuuttt, I find it so awkward *hides*

(and in case you are thinking of removing me from your flist, I was TOTALLY joking O_O ...yes, just joking)

Stargate fandom is massive. While I generally see some of the same faces here and there, it's not that often. You can rec fics from authors no one has heard of before. Same with SVU, but to a much lesser extent. I kinda feel like in GA everyone knows everyone. Or, at the very least, you're always running across the same people and rec fics is hard. I dunno, maybe it's just the M/L community. It's the first ship I'm involved in that doesn't centre around the main characters, so maybe that's why.

Well, since we're sharing . . . I thought the scene was awkward too; I was a little bit on the fence about shipping M/L at that stage (I'd adored their friendship chemistry and I loved them in fic, but I thought the writers did the pairing badly for the most part) and I hated the penis-breaking thing because I thought it diminished Mark. (So, now, maybe it's you wanting to remove me LOL ( ... )

HA! ME TOO! You're actually the first (M/L shipper) I've found that doesn't think it's adorable. You hated the penis-breaking though?! I LOL'D. Really hard! I'm pretty juvenile like that though XD

Oh yes, I read through the threads after the fact and same of the stuff they said had my jaw dropping. Are we watching the same show with the same characters, like really?

Rambling, ftw!

Well, I'm lurking Stargate fandom, and I was in SVU for only like 8 months. My knowledge isn't hardly extensive on the subject :/

LOL at your ETA! =D

You know, I've watched it subsequently (and written fic related to it!) and now I kind of find it funny (especially Owen and Callie, actually; and then there's the deleted Derek scene, of course) but at the time, I just cringed for Mark. Literally, almost behind the sofa stuff LOL. 'Cause, you know, he's Mark . . . do the writers remember S3 at all?!!

*hijacks thread*

While I didn't mind the hair-stroking (just because I thought it was so Lexie, and Mark really didn't have a choice but to sit through it lmao), I did cringe at Lexie's "we're beautiful, omg, orchids, hostile environments ain't got nothin' on us yay!" speech. I'm pretty sure I considered dropping the ship for like a second and a quarter after that one. I think I posted a rant about it on my journal a while back.

I can't watch that scene. Just...No. I remember thinking, "Oh god, this is like throwing gasoline on the fire for the haters!" Then, I also reassessed my commitment to the ship :/

I more or less stopped shipping them for an entire week because of this ep. And despite Lexie's speechifying, I reserved most of my hatred for Mark. For some reason, though, I adored them doing virtually nothing together (with the old lady patient who refused to die) the following week and then I was back on board.

For Mark? Really? That's interesting. How come? As long as we're admitting to cringing to stuff...that scene where Mark says, "You think you broke me? You're the one that put me back together, Little Grey"? Major cringing at that line. But then he puts his arm around her, and it was adorable, and I really loved the jacket he was wearing, so that saved the scene for me, lol.

Because remember when he turned up at Seattle Grace in 2.18 and he was totally in love with Addison and yet he was all business with the patient (Derek's) he muscled in on? Well, I know he loves Lexie, but that isn't the point. In real life (yeah, I googled it - I'm very sad) it takes a team of attendings to do the plastic surgery end of a face transplant and in 2.18 he would've known that. And yet he (I know, it's not his fault, it's the writers', but I hold him responsible) let his intern girlfriend (and only his intern girlfriend) scrub in and then turns it into a romantic moment. So I hated him. Quite viciously. For about half an hour ( ... )

I hated the eye-locking thing that happened, but him picking her didn't bother me. I thought it was cute how proud he looked when she got that question right. Plus, it kinda goes back to that first episode when Derek picks Meredith because they slept together. Parallel! =D

I can't get past the cheesy! It's amazing that I'm a M/L shipper at all, considering that I cringe at their speeches most of the time. Thank god for good fanfiction ;) Mark and Shadow Shepherd were all kinds of awesome =D I felt bad for Mark =(

His leather jacket was so hot! I hope it's not evidence for growth ='( It'll hopefully make an other appearance again, someday.
