Spreading the word: El pueblo unido jamás será vencido

Mar 17, 2008 09:57

I'm probably the last one to post about this, but I think I should at least help spread the word...

PLEASE READ!!!

I don't think I need to write lengthy posts about the current situation on LJ. Suffice to say that expressing my feelings on the matter would best be done with a rude gesture accompanied by a rude sound, so - no.
There was a time when I thought the wonderful idea that was LJ had gone awry and it would only be a matter of time until it would either collapse or force me out of here. LJ is still here, I'm still here - and once more I'm surprised that somehow LJ managed to make things even worse. Isn't it amazing?

For a much better and more detailed analysis of the situation, please read this IMPORTANT POST!
There's now a follow-up on the post above which is also worth reading.

erestor compiled some info about this as well here, here and here.

Now, I know that once again the reactions mostly are a) "Where will I go?" and b) "What can I do anyway?"

Remember: LJ is a place for us. It's the posts and comments of the people using LJ that make this place attractive for yet more people. So far, the LJ staff has succeeded in making this place less and less attractive with each "improvement". Did they ask the users? Did they take back changes that were clearly unpopular?
The way I see it, if it weren't for us, they wouldn't have anything worth a penny to barter with. They should be very careful to not turn LJ into a Rube Goldberg machine - i.e. a machine that performs a very simple task in a very intricate (meaning: overly complicated) way.
IMO, there's no need to proove to us how devilishly clever they are. They're not. To me they come across as cheating, lying, greedy bastards who turn this place (a place we love) into a profit-making hell-hole.

Well - these people have come up with an idea:

ONE DAY CONTENT STRIKE

Friday, March 21, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT. No posts, no comments, in journals or communities, whether public, private or friends-locked. Spread the word!

No idea if it'll truly make the people in charge suddenly pull their heads out of their arses, but I think it's worth a try. ;)

livejournal, depressed, netiquette, lj, fandom, food for thought, opinion
