ROSE

I enjoy growing vegetables in my garden and greenhouse, but have never been enthusiastic about flowers, though of course I appreciate their beauty. Years ago I saw a beautiful rose flowering in a churchyard in West Sussex. I tried to find its name by searching the internet, but there are hundreds of rose varieties and I never found the one I'd hope.

Last year by chance I saw the rose - it was featured in a gardening section of my daily newspaper. It 's name? SCENTIMENTAL; doubtless a play on words, "scent" and "sentimental"

Back to the internet and as I now knew its name it was easy to find in catalogues of specialist rose growing nurseries. I bought two 3-year old bush plants and planted them in my garden February this year. To my delight they flowered during May and after a few weeks are once again in flower.

SCENTIMENTAL: the flowers on the same bush vary slightly in colour, some pure white some with a hint of pink, but all with red markings. 19th May, 2020.
