The fact that your story starts to decide where it wants to go and how it wants to be written instead of kindly leaving this decision to you as the author seems rather normal to me... but there are enough people who would agree that something might be broken inside of my brain as well. Actual research to me is a sign for a good author - i never write anything at all without doing research, preferrably lots of it.
