your wit, inventiveness, affectionate acceptance and understanding hugs can improve any day

Thank you. That's particularly heartening because it's saying I'm succeeding at a couple of specific virtues that I really want to succeed at.

and comments from you are almost always just far enough to the left of my own way of thinking to really make me pause and consider. It's wonderful.

Is that "to the left" in a political left/right sense or just as in off in left-field ? I suspect I probably come across as left-wing compared to the majority of political discourse in the US today [ reminded of Neil Gaiman's comment to the effect that in the US where the choice is right wing or extra-right wing with fries he feels like a hairy-eyed anarchist, but put him in a room with China Mieville and Ken MacLeod and he realises how much of a wishy-washy why-can't-we-all-just-get-along middle-of-the-road liberal he is. ] but I see myself as off somewhere orthogonal to that distinction, really. [ The short description of my political ideal is "by Stafford Beer out of Jane Jacobs". The long description is a novel. ]

Just as in off in left-field. I'm actually extremely leftist myself, for an American (same conundrum as above), and thus unlikely to say that anyone who doesn't think we should all be living naked and free in the waters of the Atlantic like our Atlantean ancestors is particularly to the left of me. Personally, if you want to do that, huzzah, but please waterproof any books you may have on loan from me before you dive.
