Last night, right around eight o'clock in the evening, my laptop decided that abruptly turning itself off would be keen. Needless to say, I did not agree. Even more needless to say, this scotched my plans to make an early night of it rather thoroughly, since there was no way in hell I was going to calm down enough to get to sleep before my normal bedtime, and if the computer didn't come back online, I wasn't going to sleep at all.
X. managed to get Viv (the laptop) to come back up by unseating and reseating her battery, and everything started working normally again. I was able to run SpySweeper (pulling another three dozen spyware tags off the harddrive), but my Symantec continues to refuse to start. When all was said and done, I lost...
* The latest Iron Poet tracking sheet, and a half-finished poem; annoying to reconstruct, but not all that time-consuming.
* Roughly a week and a half's worth of roleplay logs, from the sudden termination of my SimpleMU.
* Three years off the tail-end of my life.
Things seem to be working normally now, and I will be doing full backups this weekend, if it kills me. I'm also going to try to make
porpentine run some diagnostics, although I don't know how well those will work.
I didn't need that life expectancy, right?
