Girlyman at the Freight!

...and, well, some other lady.

Last night, Chris and I went to see Girlyman opening for Catie Curtis at the Freight and Salvage. (Notice that I didn't say 'and Catie Curtis' -- there's a reason for this.) I became a big, big Girlyman fan at the Falconridge Folk Festival last summer, when their name and then their CD and then everything else about them caught my attention. So when I heard that they were coming to the Bay Area, well, seeing them again became a priority.

Fortunately, I'd managed to infect Chris with their music to such a degree that he was willing to drive from work (Palo Alto) to my place (Concord) to the concert (Berkeley), while knowing that he would have to go back to Santa Cruz at the end of the night. And that, my friends, is love.

Joey emailed us both early in the day, and agreed to save us seats, since he was likely to beat us there. Ah, bliss. We wound up right up front, two rows from the stage, with a great view of everything. Doris was looking good in a sundress with daisies in her hair; Tammy's letting her hair grow out again. All three of them were brilliantly good fun live, although Tammy seemed a little bit intimidated by the size and enthusiasm of the crowd.

High points -- 'Postcards From Mexico'. 'Young James Dean'. 'Hey Rose' with a segue into 'Genie in a Bottle' in the middle -- one which I caught with dismaying speed, all things considered. Chris picked up his own copy of their CD, and I got a copy of the Garden Verge CD (Tammy and Doris, pre-Nate). We split after Girlyman and before Catie Curtis, so that Chris could get home without dying.

Very good show.

Very happy blonde.

life rocks, concerts, good things, music
