Pegasus Remix: Wonderland Will.

Sep 18, 2012 10:29

"Cheshire Kitten," by S. J. Tucker, to the tune of "Somebody Will," by Ada Palmer.
I would apologize, but I'm not sorry.

Now teatime is so close,
We're all treasures we're only just starting to find.
Crescent smiles and stripes and spots and waiting for secrets that will not be mine.
A hundred riddles ready to guess, and one more to carry you home.
A cat, a smile, an Alice next, a Wonderland ready to roam.
And I want it so much.
Close my eyes I can taste the sweet jam in the air.
In the darkness the Jabberwock whispers of stories that I will not share.
But I'll teach the Alice who'll pass through the looking glass
Into the realm where an Alice belongs,
And I'll write the riddle that asks of a raven
Just where is the line between writing and wrongs.
It will never get easy to wake from my dream
When the world that I dream of is so far away.
But I am willing to sacrifice
Something I don't have for something I won't have
When Wonderland will someday.

And it's always a chase,
All this being and fleeing and battling time,
In search of a chessboard which all of my efforts will never make mine.
But more than paint goes into a rose, it's slightly more than slight of hand.
So stripe by stripe the Cheshire grows, in ways you might not understand.
I am voyaging too.
We will need all the dreamers as much as the dreams for these worlds to come true.
And I'll paint the roses that bloom in the garden
Surrounding the tower so terribly high,
And I'll roll and tumble along with the punches
Until all the Alices learn how to fly.
It takes so many sailors to conquer an ocean,
And so many more when the oysters won't play,
But I am willing to sacrifice
Something I don't have for something I won't have
When Wonderland will someday.

It's so easy to run.
Hide away in my room, tricks and fantasy plans.
Let them call me a kitten who can't face reality's grownup demands.
But if I love Wonderland it's no wonder I feel what I feel.
And so much more I feel for this,
The world that created them, world we create with them, one chance to make them all real.
And I know we can't stop.
I've planned too many wonders for one little rhyme,
Though so often the present may seem too confusing to get there in time.
But I'll tell the story and I'll be the picture
And pour from the teapot that never runs out.
And run down the rabbithole, come along, quickly,
There's so much to do, give up clinging to doubt.
There are so many chances to give up the journey,
especially when it’s so easy to stay.
But I am willing to sacrifice
Something I don't have for something I won't have
And not only me
But we are willing to sacrifice
Something we don't have for something we won't have
So Wonderland will,
So Wonderland will someday.
